  • 1. how to unhook a connection point?
After I drew a continuous line with many turning points. I realized that at one of the turning points, the line at one side needs to be thicker. And the line at the other side needs to be thinner. So I have to break the connection right at the connection point. Is this possible? Which tool to use? And how to do it? Thanks.
  • 2. Visio Web Shapes - Unable to establish an Internet connection.
When searching for shapes I get this error Visio Web Shapes - Unable to establish an Internet connection. This used to work I have re-installed Visio a couple of times This is using visio 2003 I can access microsoft online just fine so I am sure this isn't a network config problem. Any ideas? Thanks
  • 3. Org chart shapes - copy and pasting
I am using Visio 2007, and creating an org chart. I am trying to copy and paste org chart shapes so they retain the size and shape of the original, but when I paste it, it only retains the information inside and reverts to the default size. Any idea how I might make the new shape retain the size of the old one?
  • 4. Macros on standard toolbar
I have built a macro in nearly every Microsoft Office tool to paste unformatted text since I use this feature so much. But I am having three problems trying to do this in Visio. One is that although I can create the macro, I can't seem to assign it to a toolbar button. If I have to go through the macro menu command to run it, there is no point since it is just as easy to use the paste special command. The second issue is that the macro itself seems to want to be saved in my drawing or one of the shape templates. In the other tools it can be saved in a common file that is read on startup. The third problem may have to be resolved by my IT people. I get a warning that my security is set too high for Visio to open a macro that is not digitally signed. I understand the error message, but I don't get this same error in any of the other MS Office tools. Any comments?

Importing and editing vector images

Postby YnVnZ3k » Fri, 03 Dec 2004 06:51:02 GMT

A client of mine would prefer that I provide them with vector diagrams in
Visio format, so I am evaluating the product for purchase.
I typically create the drawings in 3D and render them to a vector format
such as AI or Flash for further editing. I see that unlike the other 2D
vector drawing tools that I use, Visio is very limited in what it can import
(only SVG).

That said, I am able to import SVG files into Visio, but the way it
automatically groups the lines of a 3D image is very strange. I would like to
be able to break the groups of lines apart, re-attach the lines to those that
will share common line styles and apply different line styles to each of the
new groups. However, there doesn't appear to be a way to break apart the
images (I tried the ungroup option but it is unavailable beyond the first
level). I can't even remove a line segment -- the freeform drawing tool will
let me delete a point but then the line is automatically reconnected between
the remaining points.

How do I edit these SVG images in Visio? Any input would be much
appreciated. I have to decide what to do on short notice.

Thank you.

1.About editing the "alignment vector of a matching connection point

I have a hard time making two figures connect to each other the way I want
them. This is mainly because of the so called "alignment vector of a matching
connection point". As you all know, each connection point is assigned an
alignment vector, useful for repositioning of the shape when another shape is
attached (connected) to it, or for the proper direction of the connector when
"plugged" into the connection point of a shape. The coordinates of this
alignment vectors can be edited in the ShapeSheet in "DirX / A", "DirY / B"
cells under Connection Points section.
My question is what is the meaning of these coordinates, and what is the
easiest way (preferably visually) to edit the direction of this alignment
I remember reading something about this in the help files somewhere, but
cannot find it anymore.

2.Best images to use in Visio besides vector?

I am creating a stencil for our work and I need to import a lot of images of
our products to do network diagrams and such with them.

In the future I would hope to get the chance to create vector images of all
of our products, but right now I need to know what the best format is to us
to import into Visio.

What's the best format for resizing the images once in Visio besides Vector?

3.Vector Notation (Creating a vector line above letters)

Hello. I am wondering if I can create a vector line (that is a arrowed line
point to the right) above letters in microsoft visio.

For example:

I want to change a standard "F" into a F with a arrow point to the right
directly above it. Thank you.
