  • 1. Embedding visio drawing inside another drawing (using SharePoint)
I have some Visio drawings living in a SharePoint document library. I can easily embed these drawings as linked objects using word. The link points to the SharePoint directory. In Visio 2003, I would like to embed drawings as elements inside another visio drawing such that when the elements change all the drawings using the elements reflect the changes. When I embed the visio drawings using Insert>Object, I select the desired drawing in the SharePoint directory. Visio cannot handle a link to a SP directory, so it creates a temporary object on my local drive and links to that. I can overcome the problem by mapping the SharePoint server to a drive letter, but this is not a solution that I can deploy to all users. It seems that Word and Visio should handle embedded objects in a similar fashion... am I hooped? Does Visio 2007 perhaps address this problem?

Is it possible to create line charts, bar charts, pie charts, etc. in Visio such that we can create in PowerPoint and Excel. If yes, how? Thanks a lot.
  • 3. Default Spelling Language
Hey, I am using Visio in two different language environments. That means sometimes I am creating drawings with German content and other times I am creating drawings with an English content. I am also using both the German and English Visio on different PCs. My problem is, I can not find a setting to change the default spell checking language for the whole drawing. The only thing I found was how to change the language for all the shapes already existing in my drawing and finding that was not easy. But every new shape I add has the wrong language again. There must be a way like in all other office products to change the default spelling language for the whole document. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks for your help Florian

  • 5. connector tool not working for me now
The connector tool is, for some reason, defaulting to a right angle shape and does not connect from attachmant point on a process flowchart shape to another. It won't let me drag one end and attach it to a shape as I am accustomed to doing? Is there a way to reset the tool to a default behavior? And after I change its setting from right angle to straight connector, it reverts back to right angle the next time I use the tool.. ??? Thank you. -Greg

Linking objects between document pages

I have a document that has several pages with the same detailed object which
needs frequent updates. I am looking for a way to make changes to the object
once and have the change propagate to the other objects on all of my other
pages. Is there some way that I could use the "paste link" function or
something that works similar. "Paste link" will only allow me to paste a
link from another visio document not from an object on a different page of
the same document. I would really appreciate some direction on this

Thanks,

consider making your changes to the object master which is in the document
stencil for those times that you want to propagate the changes across
multiple images.....

Al,

Thanks for your quick response!

Acutally I suspected this as the solution from what I read in the visio help
file but after I drag the master to the sheet and then make a change to the
master and save the master the change does not propagate to the the object on
the sheet. Am I doing something wrong? I'm running Visio 2002 SR-1

Thanks,

are you dragging from the 'real' stencil or from the document stencil (file
=> shapes => document stencil). Under the covers there is an intermediate
step between the real stencil and the page where the shape is first copied
to the document stencil and then the page. You have to be sure which
'master' you're changing.

1.Linking objects between document pages: Resolved

Al,

That was my problem, I didn't realize there was a difference between the
master stencil and the document stencil. Once I started using the document
stencil from File>Stencils>Document Stencil I was able to get my changes to
propagate through the entire document. It makes so much more sense now.

Thanks for your help,

JDCK

2.Linking objects between pages

When working on large E-R diagrams, I quite often split them across different
tabs/pages so that they're easy to print. Usually I'll do this by copying one
table to another page, so there is a duplicate. Is there a way to link the
two tables such that making changes to one will also update the copy on other
pages? If not, can this facility be added?

3.Print Visio page with imbedded object link

visio, as well as the attached links. Possible?

4.Object linking from Visio to Word with more than one Pages

How could I link Page-2 to Page-n?

5.Linking to specific Word document page from Visio

I am trying to hyperlink to a specific page on a Word document, from an
object using Visio Standard 2003.

The Visio drawing is then to be converted to HTML.

The Word document resides on a network drive. I can successfully link to
the whole document, but can to a specific page. I have tried various
additions to the hyperlink in the address field
(networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page=3,
networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page3,
networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page-3 etc) but none go to the specific
page.

Does anyone have any tips?
