  • 1. Refresh an Inserted Picture?
I've got a layered visio document. The background layer is a large JPEG that I scaled (using Visio) to fit on a letter page. If/when the JPG image is changed (using another program)...and I want to update my Visio document...how can I go about this? Is there a 'Refresh Picture' option? Can it automatically scale/format as done during the original 'Insert Picture' step? Is there any way to batch process a bunch of such changes to multiple Visio documents? thanks
  • 2. Viewing Polymorphic Attributes
Using the UML add-in I have created a class model containing classes that have both polymorphic and non- polymorphic operations. However, the operation details displayed on the class diagram do not include this attribute, so it is unclear from looking at the diagram which operations are polymorphic. Does anyone know if this can be displayed? Thanks Mike
  • 3. Resizing UML Activity shapes
I am having difficulties resizing UML Activity shapes. E.G. Having placed a state shape in a swim lane and then entered its name (which is too long for it to remain in the swim lane) I need to resize it such that it remains within the boundaries of the swim lane. I have tried removing the width and height protection from the shape and this does give me the usual resize grab handles on the shape as you would expect but when I attempt to resize the unlocked shape it shimply gets dragged as a complete shape across the page! I have also tried to directly amend the shapes height and width settings in the shape dimensions pop up box but the width and height simply revert back to the original size. Can any body help???
  • 4. Resizing in Visio
I'm having issues with Visio not allowing me to resize shapes. It's been a while since I used Visio, but I don't remember it being this much of a pain. Let me lay out the steps that I followed. I began with trying to create an UML Activity Diagram in Visio. I clicked on File/New/Software/UML Model Diagram. I picked UML Activity Diagram from the shape list. Then I placed an "Action State" shape on the grid. When I double clicked on it (instead of being able to type text), I got a properties dialog box. That seemed a bit strange, but I typed text in the name field and it resized the shape to fit the text. I attempted to resize the shape to not be so long, but the shape had little padlocks at each connection point. I removed the height/width protection by using Format Protection. The padlocks changed to squares. When I attempted to click on one of the squares to drag the shape to a new size, the shape just moved. I have the double ended arrows indicating that a resize should be allowed, but it's not happening. Is there a global setting somewhere that controls this? If so, what do I need to change? I'm not quite sure which version of Visio I have (the about dialog just says "Visio(R) for Enterprise Architects (10.0.255)"

visio support vba within a document and in developer mode you can insert
controls (checkboxes) into a page.

1.How can I check suggested changes someone else made to original do

With the "track changes" feature turned on, I can review a subordinates Visio
flowchart and overlay my comments/suggestions on top of his original drawing.
When s/he makes those suggested changes, he is modifying the original
flowchart so the orignal is now modified. I want to be able to "check in the
changes" s/he made back to his/her original flowchart to see if they were
made correctly. It is difficult to see this without comparing the suggested
changes back to the original, alongside with the modified charts, to insure
the suggestions were appropriately incorporated into the modified flowchart.

The only way I can think to do this is to copy the original flowchart
drawing to a new tab so the new tab drawing becomes the modified copy. This
way, I can review the original flowchart with my comments (via track changes)
against the modified (new tab) flowchart. However, this gets cumbersom on a
multi-page flowchart. Any thoughts?

2.Visio 2003 - Check box question

Hi there

I have relatively basic Visio skills, and want to know whether it is
possible to have a check box function in the process which allows to show if
a task is either:
1. not started
2. in progress
3. completed

the simpliest way was to get the staff to colour the box a different colour
as tasks were moved along but i would a way for them to just hit a check box
of one of the above and have the shape in which that task sits in to be a
different colour.

Thanks

4.Making a desk, not covered in stencil, merging two boxes and a curved line

All,

Newbie here. I am making an office layour to allow me to visualise
desk layout and network / power / telephone point in Visio 2007.

The desks we have don't seem to be covered by the visio shapes and I
can't seem to make a shape. So I am either looking in the worng place
for the shape or doing something wrong.

The desks are corner desks, but with uneven return, so take a box 1.6m
x .8m. Add a return at one end of 0.6m x .4m. So this gives you an L
shape, then on the internal angle, soften with a curve. So now you
have an L shape where the internal corner of the L is a curve, not an
angle, but the bottom of the L is narrower than the vertical.

I tried with the "corner surface", but the ends are the same depth, so
you can't have the shape I need, it is always symtrical.

I tried with two boxes and a curved line and then Shape Opertions
Combine / Union, but eventhrough my curve intersected with two lines,
it just dissappears when I merge the objects into one.

I was doing really well as well, last time I tried, I gave up before I
had finished the walls! This time got walls, doors etc.

Thanks in advance, any help appeciated.

5.Making a desk, not covered in stencil, merging two boxes and a cur

Hi Jason --
You can make your desk using the line and pencil tools. Start with the line
tool. The process isn't difficult, and would go something like this (you
will add a few more points to get your desk shape) -- draw a rectangular
shape, but instead of making 4 corners, shorten two of the siides by
chamffering one of the corners. Make sure this is one continuous line
segment if you want it filled. (Alternatively, you may select all line
segments, go to shapes, Operations, Join.) With the newly drawn figure
selected, switch to the pencil tool. Now the middle of each line segment
will have an inflection node. Use the pencil to grab this node on the
chamferred (diagonal line) and move it in toward the center of the figure.
The line will now become a curve. That's it. Your desk will have a few more
line segments, but, the process is the same.

Enjoy!
