- 1. Security Configuration Wizard (SCW)
Hello everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the following issue I am having with running SCW. I am getting an error when I am trying to run the SCW to create a new profile. Background Info: * Running Windows Server SP1 * I have tried using a user who is part of Administrators on the domain and a local admin account. Steps I have Performed: 1) Installed SCW successfully 2) Launched SCW 3) Clicked Next through the first screen 4) Select Create SCW Profile, click Next 5) Left Server name as default, click Next 6) ERROR occurs ERROR Details: Can not Process Security Configuration Database Problem: Unspecified. I also click the "View Log File" which launches the SCW Viewer and it returns a "Page Can Not be Dispalyed Error." Thanks in advance for your help. - 2. Move DFS FROM a domain controller
My employer is running DFS on our 1st domain controller and I'd like to move it. I setup a member server but DFS says it's waiting for Active Directory update. It waits for AD to update with DFS info before starting DFSR. Of course, the server does not have AD, thus, it waits forever and never starts DFSR. ??? Brian - 3. Windows Update during backup

Auto-restarting a server is bad practice - you are all but guranteed to be burned at some point if you do this. Before we upgrade our Windows 2000 native-mode domain to Windows 2003, what is the best way to ensure that we can recover in case something goes wrong? We have 2 DCs running W2K SP4. One is many years old. The other is newer and has all FSMO roles. If we do an in-place upgrade of the newer DC and something goes wrong part way through, can we simply re-image the DC with a Ghost image taken before we started the upgrade? Is there a better way? --Eric

You cannot manually create these secret admin shares nor can you change the properties. You can recreate the shares with a registry change. The following should do it for you: http://www.**--****.com/ ;en-us;842715 it.

3.Shared File keeps disappearing
We have some users that created a shared excel worksheet using Excel XP. This file is located on a network shared folder. This particular file keeps dissappearing and will not allow us to save it to this network share location. File restores do not help. Once the file is restored, it almost immediately dissappears. I'm pretty sure it is dissappearing because of the sharing of the file. We tried removing the share off the file and then copying that back to the network drive, but file still dissappears. We tried renaming the file and copying that back to the network, but that dissappears as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I personally don't even know where to start with this problem.
4.shared borders keep disappearing
I have a very large site (100+ pages) with all four borders. When I build a page that I want to eliminate the right border I select the current page border to be removed. An hour glass comes up and takes several seconds for the border to disappear. All other pages still seem to have the borders. When I go to FTP the page all pages show they have been changed. When I update one of the pages I had not deleted the border from and I FTP it, the border is then gone when I view it in a browser. When I close FP 2002 and come back to it later the right border I had removed from only one page is now the default empty border on all the pages in my site. The right border is completly lost. I have gone back to the _borders folder and it is an empty border. For some reason I cannot make a border change to "current page" without it effecting all the pages. HELP
5.CHANGING CD-ROM DRIVE SETTINGS...CS-CS to MASTER-SLAVE
Hi, I currently have to CD-ROM drives. The drive on top is a DVD-ROM drive
and the one on the bottom is a DVD-R (Recordable) drive. I currently have
both drives set to the CS setting. I just reinstalled WINDOWS XP with a new
hard drive.
The IDE cable is hooked up from the mother board to the DVD-ROM drive which
works fine. After I installed Windows and everything I turned off my computer
and put the middle section of the IDE cable to my DVD-R drive. However, my
computer is not detecting this drive at all. I checked under BIOS and it
lists the drive, but the info is all 0MB for all the specs. The DVD-R drive
also doesn't show up in the MY COMPUTER folder.
My hard drive is also set to CS because I plan on hooking up my previous
hard drive with the new one so I can retrieve all my old files.
The manual for my DVD-R drive says to put the settings as MASTER and SLAVE
with the DVD-R drive. However, last time I did this when I was installing the
DVD-R drive, my computer wouldn't start Windows anymore....not even in SAFE
mode, causing me to have to buy a new hard drive so as to not lose my
important data, and re-install Windows XP. I'm worried that if I attempt to
switch the drives again, something might happen. Any suggestions? Should I
just give it a try?
