    1. Can you have concurrent logins for a user and if so how many or is it unlimited? 2. Does and XP Pro license give you a license for Windows Server (I have been told this and was wanting to verify)? If this is true, can you upgrade XP Home to XP Pro, thus giving you a server license? 3. What is the best and cheapest way to purchase approximately 20-30 user licenses? Thank you!

Hi all guys, I have a domain root DFS on Windows 2003 native domain and forest. The DFS root has one replica on a second DC. My question is: can I change permissions on root DFS ("\\mydomain\dfsroot") because I have to permit the access also to user from different domain and I checked that only "mydomain\users" have rights to access it. Thanks in advance, Marco

I would like to get a phone call whenever any of our servers go down. How can I do that?
  • 4. Can't access W2003R2 Servers with RDP via VPN
I am running several servers on Win2003 Server, R2 SP1 and can access them with RDP when I am on the network, but am unable to do this when I VPN into the network using a Cisco PIX VPN. I can access all the other computers and servers on the network in this fashion, including other servers running Win2003 Server SP1, but none of the servers running R2. The internal addresses of the network are 192.168.42.x and when I VPN in, I am assigned an IP address of 10.0.0.x. The servers return a ping when I am on the network, but not when I VPN in. One server is running Exchange 2003, one is running NAT, and the third SMTP. I have been through the security config wizard on the Exchange Server with a fine tooth comb, and have turned off the Windows firewall, but to no avail. The other two servers are not running a Firewall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob

Add or Remove Programs is completely blank

Postby cmlhcGhv » Fri, 14 Oct 2005 18:01:05 GMT

I have Win2k3 Server and when I try to use the Add or Remove Programs tool,
it's completely blank (i.e. no listings of any installed programs). What
happened that could have caused this? I'm completely stumped (and cannot
un-install some programs).

Virus can do that. See if you have anything under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Every CLSID should have 'DisplayName' (less than 63 char, I believe). If
it's not there or longer than 63, it won't show up. In that case, just enter
the program name in DisplayName.

1.why doesn't add remove programs completely remove files?

I messed up the settings on a program (audacity), so I uninstalled it
using windows add-remove, and reinstalled it. The reinstalled version
retained the same messed up settings.
Why doesn't Windows remove all the data when it removes a program? Is
there a way to do this?
Perhaps if I delete all references to the program in the Registry?

2.IE blank and Add/Remove Programs blank

My Son's computer mysteriously seems to be missing some
registry entries or something, to cause Add/Remove
Programs to be blank, and IE to come up with only the
background color, on every web page you visit.

Error when opening Add/Remove Programs is:
An Unexpected error occurred.
Invalid Argument res://sp3res.dll/default.hta

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks info,

3.can't add programs or remove programs out of XP add/remove

When I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the
add/remove control panel, I get a
prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in C:\Windows\Service Pack
Files\i386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it
to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for-
to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says
it can't find the file on the CD either.

I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to
remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP
computers and never had this problem before.

I use the Fax Service all the time so this is sort of important for us. Can
anyone help?

4.Completely unable to install IIS in add and remove programs

I have been trying to install IIS for 3 days now using the Add and Remove
programs feature.

1. I go to Control Panel and call Add and remove programs.
2. I click on the "Windows Components" button and when the list appear I
select IIS. It greys because only some components will be installed without
manual selection
3. The Install starts and runs untill it's time to copy the 1st file from
the SP2 files folder. It says it cannot copy it, but it shows me the file it
"cannot copy" as being present.

4. I look in the SP2 files folder in Windows. All the files it needs are
there. None of them can be copied by the install procedure

I have re-installed SP2 and also copied their files to a CD and tried to use
that as an install service.

No luck. Has anybody got any idea what I might do next?

5.add/remove program completely EMPTY !

I'd like to remove some programs I've installed and I don't need anymore and
I've tried to remove them from add/remove panel in control panel.

When I click on it, it's written: please wait during list creation
(translated, sorry, it may be something else in the english version). and
then nothing. It doesn't freeze, I can change the sorting by other choices,
but it still show nothing other than this message.

I've waited up to 10 minutes and nothing, checking and unchecking "show
updates" changes nothing. Add/remove windows components works fine.

Please help !
