  • 1. printer management with R2 with Win2000 DCs
    We have a 2000 PDC, a 2000 BDC and a 2003 DC hosting Exch2003. The schema was updated to 2003 for the Exch2003 implementation. We just purchased a server with 2003 R2 for WSUS and want to also use it for the new printer management functionality. I understand I will need to update the schema to R2 and according to documentation I do not have to upgrade the existing 2000 DCs to 2003. Am I on the right path? Will the printer mangement features of R2 work in the upgraded 2003 domain with 2000 DCs? Thanks!
  • 2. Workstation Renews IP on every reboot
    I have a workstation that seems to renew its IP address on every reboot. the Lease has not expired and it renews with the same IP. the problem is that the IP does not get assigned until after the CTL-ALT-Del screen. There for my Group Policy is not being allied. I also get Netlogin errors that the DC is not found. Any thoughts as to how to stop this renewal process? I could go with a static IP but thats not a real solution. Thanks,

  • 4. 2003 Server Certification
    I am thinking about pursuing a Windows 2003 server MCP certification ... and I would like some opinions from experienced admins as to whether or not I should just wait for the Longhorn certification instead . . . i.e. will I be wasting my money and my time by pursuing the W2K3 server certification so close to the release of the next version (seeing that I won't get my certification for probably another 2-3 months)? -- Brandon

    Wasn't there a new server OS from Microsoft a few years back called "Windows.NET" ? I came across an evaluation CD for this OS (RC1) and realized I haven't heard that name since. Is it known now by another name? Or did I miss something somewhere? Regards and TIA for any illumination. T

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
