  • 1. Advice please
    I have a small network (Server 2003 and 4 W2K clients). The system is a Point of Sale program...the workstations are actually used as cash registers and ticket sellers.There are 2 workstations located in the same room as the server. There are 2 remote users. Originally, the remote users connected with PC Anywhere to 2 computers that were networked with the Server and they operated their programs via remote control. This worked, except for the flaky phone lines which resulted in frequent disconnects and or the inability to make a connection. The Server location has Cox cable as do the 2 remote locations. Enter VPN. I installed an RV082 router from Linksys and have spent the better part of the past 2 weeks on the phone with their tech support. The problem is that we can connect with ther server sometimes, but the connections go away after a few minutes. We can connect, I would guess, 1 out of 20 attempts. I am not adverse to hiring a consultant if necessary. Someone told me I could do what I want to do using Windows 2000 Server. Without jumping immediately to the consultant solution, is it possible to do without a VPN router? If so, how? While I am fairly technical, I think I am over my head on this one, but willing to try.

    Hello, does VPN fall under Terminal Services and require and seperate license from the server? Or can I just setup the Server (server 2003) to accept VPN without using Terminal Services or TS required? Thanks.

Postby TWFyc2hhbCBaaG91 » Wed, 05 Nov 2008 17:35:01 GMT

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
