  • 1. Unable to print to Win2003 shared printer from some apps
    I've got some applications that are unable to print to the server since last week. The errors are "not enough memory" or "Printer not ready". Printing locally is OK, and redirecting LPT1 to the server's printer works also(this is a plan B solution, I would rather solve the problem). On the same machine, other applications works well. This happens on ALL Win2000+ workstations, different applications running FoxPro (old version I think) and Access 2.0. We explored everything we changed from last week (SUS updates, some GPO) without success. Anyone has an idea how to find the cause?

  • 4. MS 2003 server compatibility with win98
    I have a 03 server setup as a DC and i have a weird problem, I have 16 workstations 14 are win98 machines and the other 2 are XP Pro. After about 20 min of having the network up with all machines. The win98 machines slow down to a crawl while the XP machines are screaming a long with out a problem. The server is handling the DHCP, DNS and WINS. I thought i might have a machine or print server, creating a bunch of noise/network traffic but it is less that 1%. Now the other wierd thing is a reboot of the server makes it go away. I have changed out the switches, The server is a brand new Dell, but just incase i changed out the NIC....still nothing ANY IDEAS????? Please help Dan

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
