  • 1. Vista and Windows XP Group Policy
    We have a Windows 2003 Server and a number of Windows XP Pro Pc's and now, some Vista Business PC's. We have some Group Policies that are used by our Windows XP Pro clients and I want to apply the same or similar policies to our new Vista machines. What would be the best solution in applying Group policies to both XP and Vista machines? - our users can logon to either machines. Would I need to create a new OU for just the vista machines? thanks.
  • 2. NTBackup Files Size Limitation
    I have a simple true or false question: Does the NT Backup utility have a file size limitation? In other words, regardless of how much you selected to backup, the job will only backup until the bkf file reaches a certain size (@ 4 Gb)? Thanks, Ross

  • 4. [W2003] Launching app at run time + session time?
    Hello, We use an application that monitors our phone line through a modem, and sends an e-mail and pops up a windows when a call comes in (with name + number CID, ifavailable). We'd like to move this application from a workstation to a W2003 Server, where multiple users connect through Terminal Services and on the console itself. The problem is: The program should be launched and run even when no session is open on the server, but when a user does log on to the console, the application should be running and show the pop-up when a call comes in. Should it be installed as a Service that is allowed to interact with the desktop or run through the Registry's Run section, and configured in such a way that it can be relaunched with a user's session through "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\.." without complaining that it's already running? Maybe it's something obvious in W2003, but I don't have much admin knowledge on Windows. Thank you
  • 5. Remote Restart
    Some of our servers need to be rebooted from time to time and I'd like to do this out of hours remotely from home or via a scheduled script. If I were to VPN into the network and use Remote Desktop to initiate the restart can I also log the server back in after the reboot occurs? I assume applications running on the server won't start until logged in? As an alternative to me sitting up at home late at night is it possible to schedule a system restart? If so how would the login step be achieved as mentioned above? Regards, Steve

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
