  • 1. IAS Error, Event 3 - reason code 97
    I have multiple CE.Net devices that will lose their authentication on a regular basis when roaming between Cisco 1230 AP's. The message from the server is "The authentication request was not processed because it contained a Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) mesage that was not appropriate for the secure authentication transaction." When this traffic is captured on a trace, the 1230's occasionally transmit the correct data as well as "appended garbage" on the backend of the packet. Cisco says that this is because aironet extensions are enable, and if they are disabled, it will go away. What I also see in the trace is that the IAS doesn't always acknowledge a request for authentication. These are happening randomly (of course), and I need to get them fixed. Any direction would be most appreciated. Equipment used: IAS running on 2003 Cisco 1230 AP's upgraded to the most recent firmware Intermec CK30's

    The application log is filling up with Event ID 2001 from Source: Perflib with the following message for autocat, mssearch, mssgthrsvc, msgatherer, mssindex services (substitute below the service in quotes "": The "mssindex" service does not have a Performance subkey or the key could not be opened. No performance counters will be collected for this service. The Win32 error code is returned in the data. I cannot find any KB article addressing this issue. Please advise.
  • 3. Win2000 Policy with POLEDIT
    Hi Gang, I have a small problem I'm trying to figure out... I inherited a Win2000 Network (Server is at SP4, real simple config)... But, I can't do things like look at the task manager and run regedit. Not to mention the default shares (IPC$ and ADMIN$) are gone. I can type in poledit and turn the regedit stuff on, same for task manager, but I can't get them to stick. Every time I exit out, I have about a minute and the settings are reset back to not allow. I also can't get the default shares to come back unless I go to a dos prompt and do a net share ipc$. I'd much rather go back to Active Directory group policies and do away with poledit and fix my other problems. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick P.S. No viruses, scans clean with Symantec.
  • 4. windows 2003 server won't startup after hibernate
    Hi, on my development PC installed 2 operation systems - XP and 2003 server. it is installed on 2 different hard drives and in order to change the OS i change which HD is first in the order of load in the BIOS. i hibernated the 2003 system and loads the XP system. the XP system made some check disk. after shutting down the XP and resuming the 2003, it won't load. i don't even have a chance to enter the F8 screen to enter safe mode. i just have black screen with the cursor in the upper left curner. after the initiation of the system and passing the "press F2 to enter setup" screen. i noticed that if i loads the XP system and browse the partition of the 2003, the boot.ini file is empty. i think maybe to change it's content to be like the XP system, so it load the OS. is this safe? is there something i can do? TIA, z.

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None

Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
