  • 1. User account settings/template?
    Hello, Had to merge from Netware to MS. In netware I could EASILY setup a user template so that when I created new users, they had certain critera and setting already set. (I did not have to apply setting like home folders to each new user) I cannot for the life of me find out how to change or edit the default user settings in 2003 server so that new users have things like home folders, profile locations, etc set. I looked in all through group policy, can't find it. Can someone tell me how to setup or change a "user template" so that I can define certain setting (like home folders, or profile locations) for each new user that I create? I'm in a DOMAIN setup, (with domain controller, a terminal server, and file server). I want all new users created to have by default, profile locations, home folders(on file server), etc set so that I don't have to edit each new user. Help please. Thanks much, Mark
  • 2. Inactivity policy to lock workstation
    Can anyone help with this. I want to be able to set up a group policy to enable password lockout if a user leaves their computer unattended for a short period of time. This is similar to password protected screen saver but I want to apply it across the whole domain. Is this possible? Regards Matthew
  • 3. LSASS error with Server Shutdown on DC
    I have tried sending MS an e-mail through the assisted online help using the PID from my server but I keep getting told that the PID is wrong for my country. I have tried multiple PID's from different servers and get the same response. That is why I am posting my question here. I have upgraded 3 of our 4 DC's from 2000 Advanced to 2003 Enterprise. One of the 3 servers is experiencing the problems discussed in article 826819. I need to get the hotfixes mentioned in the article. Like I said I had no luck with the online help as the PID is not working. Thanks for any help.
  • 4. Evaluation version of Windows Server 2003 may expire before the date that the Winver.exe file reports
    Something like this has happen to my evaluation version of the windows 2003 " For example, if the BIOS date is changed to an earlier date, and then set back to its initial date, the evaluation period ends sooner." (Just don't ask, just testing next year's events) My question is that if I now install the retail version, will that just do an upgrade or will erase the hard discs and start from scratch? I am looking forward to hearing from you. John

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
