  • 1. Service not keeping logon information
    Hi everyone, I'm having trouble with a W2K3 server. Our Antivirus client uses a dedicated account to start the update service. The problem is that every time the server reboots, the antivirus update service fails to start due to a logon failure. When I go to services and check the logon information it still has the right account but it seems like the password has been lost. When I re-enter the password I always get the message that the account has been granted the right to logon as a service. I would assume that this has been done already. All other services using service account start without a problem. I reinstalled the Antivirus program already a couple of times but no change. On other W2k3 servers the same antivirus client works fine and the service remembers the password. Has anyone an idea how to get rid of this behaviour. Tia Markus
  • 2. Services won't stop??
    Hi, I have a domain controller that is acting very strangely. Once the machine is booted and all services have started I cannot stop any service, it returnd the usual "the service did not respond in a timely fashion" error? And there is nothing in the event log! What I have noticed is that the Windows Installer service is not listed in the services list, even after I have re registered it and re installed it! Also if I try and uninstall any program that uses this service it will not work and just hang? One other symptom is if I just try and over type the password in any service logon information and click apply the dialog hangs and I have to kill it? Any ideas are more than welcome?? Ta, Stuart.
  • 3. Keeping NTFS Permissions on Copied Folders
    My need is to create multiple copies of a folder structure on a server - and have the folders in each copy have the same NTSF permissions as the original. For example: D:\Model D:\Model\Folder1 D:\Model\Folder2 gets copied to D:\Users\Bob resulting in D:\Users\Bob\Model D:\Users\Bob\Model\Folder1 D:\Users\Bob\Model\Folder2 AND after folders in D:\Model are copied to D:\Users\Bob..., they all have the same NTSF permissions as were in the source D:\Model folders. What's an easy or recommended way to accomplish this? Do I need to create a script? If so, any references would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, if this can somehow be done in one manual step, that would be acceptable. Thanks!
  • 4. FTP: error 87
    When i try to start FTP publishing service I have this message: "the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion". Besides when I try to start my ftp site I have this message: "Could not start the FTP Publishing Service service on local computer. Error 87: the parameter is incorrect." what is the problem? thx.

Hi,

all in a sudden, I can't start the BITS service on both of my Windows 2003
SP2 X64 Enterprise servers. When I try to start it, the following log
appeared in the System Log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7023
Date:		2008-11-4
Time:		16:11:08
User:		N/A
Computer:	SHECPORTAL01
Description:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
 http://www.**--****.com/

the above event repeated in the System Log every 30 seconds. Could you help?

Is that the only event log error? Check the value of ImagePath is;

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Also make sure the value of ServiceDll is;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qmgr.dll

and is type Reg_Expand_Sz

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters

and try re-registering.
