Configure MC with TvTuner card. Not getting ANY digital signal.

  • 1. webcams for windows vista
I have a new pc with Vista Premium installed on it. However, I dl BOTH yahoo messenger for XP, and yahoo messenger for VISTA. My logitech webcam does not work with VISTA cuz I cant find the tab, BUT, It works with the XP messenger. The quality isnt that great, but at least its working. My question, what webcam works better with VISTA and do I have to UNINSTALL the XP version of yahoo messenger in order for it to work correctly??
  • 2. Windows Media Player playlist
Hi, I know that this might sound like a noob question but I have to ask it. How can I make windows media player automatically organize new added files so that they are bunched up with previous songs with the same artists. I have a playlist in my player that has different file types with different locations in it. I organized all the songs and videos so that the videos are on top and the rest of the music is alphabetically arranged below the videos. When I add other media the player just puts them in the bottom of the playlist without arranging them according to their name. So for example if I have a song from an artist whose name starts with A and I want to add it to the playlist it just puts it at the bottom of the list after Z instead of putting it up with the other A's. iTunes library has that feature that it automatically puts all the songs from the same artists together and I always wondered why windows media player didn't do that.

My Music Icon has changed for some reason, from the green transparent folder with the little music thing to a normal white folder (In the start menu). I've tried restoring settings to default everywhere related to that that I thought of. How do I restore that little cool folder? Thanks for the help

MC does not support both tuners on your hybrid tuner card since both tuners
can not be used concurrently and since they do not use the same EPG.

I have seen in "help" that it should be possible in mce to see the signal
strength for digital terrestial TV signals DVB-T. I can't find where to do
it. The MS Vista help says START ->TASK -> Preferences -> TV -> Signal
strength for digital TV. But its not there?

Anyone who can suggest how to measure signal strength?

4.Getting 360 MC and Vista MC to play nice

I think I have a solution. I have been playing around with WMC on the 360 and newly installed Vista for about 3 weeks now, looking at which programs to download, which transcoders to run, blah, blah, blah. We all know the story. I was getting the same error message as the OP, and I was going crazy. I saw someone else's suggestion to turn off Windows defender. I did that, and not only do my movies play, but it looks like WMC in my 360 is playing Vob files. I encoded a couple of tv shows in mpeg, and also left the vob files. I renamed them, and the vob files play perfectly. Also, I have a show that I have yet to encode to mpeg, and the vob file plays perfectly. I hope this helps.

5.WLAN card gets signal but no IP Address

I have an OEM Orinoco Mini-PCI WLAN card in a Windows 2000 notebook. It
finds the wireless router just fine (SSID is detected; signal is strong (5/5
bars); MAC address of router is detected; there is no security on the
router) but it does not acquire an IP address (yes, it is setup for DHCP).
Here's what I have tried and found:

. swap cards with a known-good one: same problem.
. Uninstall card driver & client mgmt. software. Download and install
latest driver/SW from vendor's web site: same problem.
. Install latest driver/SW from Agere's (chipset maker) website: same
. Install another (brand and model) WLAN card in PC Card slot: success!
. Uninstall/reinstall TCP/IP (Microsoft KB Article 837333): same problem
. For another, unrelated issue, swapped out the computer shell (everything
except HDD, WLAN card, optical drive, & battery) for a known-good one.
. Give card a static address: same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions short of doing a clean reinstall of Windows
(which I'm pretty sure will fix the problem since the hardware seems OK, but
will take a solid day to do)?

Thanks in advance,
