  • 2. Proxy plug-in sample
I built the Proxy Plug-in C++ sample from the Windows Media Services 9 SDK and I have been unable to see that the IWMSCacheProxy::QueryCache() method being called. I added logging and only see that the InitializePlugin() and EnablePlugin() being called. Does anyone know why QueryCache() is not being called? Thanks. Regards, Daniel
  • 3. Server Authentication Plugin woes
I posted this message on .server as well. I am trying to write a Windows Media plugin that would allow the server to authenticate the credentials with an external DB accessible using a script. So far I have: - downloaded the Platform SDK - Installed it on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise - compiled/registered it using VS .NET 2003 - Enabled it using Windows Media Services As far as I can see the setup is correct. The default Anonymous Plugin allows any user to authenticate but the custom plugin does not allow any authentication by default. I have tried to observe the function calls using ofstream and appending to a file BUT this file is never created and I do not see error messages anywhere! Either WMS is not allowed to write to disk or the plugin's DLLMain() is never called. I was hoping someone could help me with this. Specifically: - Where is the best documentation on writing such plugings? MSDN really does not contain much. - Is it possible to do Basic Authentication with the 2003 enterprise in a custom plugin? - How can one extract the username and password? - How does one debug dll's? specifically WMS plugins? - Is there any sample code besides the platform SDK that can be used? I am sure many of you all have worked on this. Since I am not able to even see the effects of the code I have, there is no point for me to post it. Please let me know if you can help with any of this. Thank you. Nirmal

Is there any control that can be put on dialog and that can play .avi or .mpeg video clip from a stream instead of file or URL?
  • 5. DMORegister Problems
I've been working on a G.729 decoder DMO filter. The media files I'm trying to decode are in WAVEFORMAT. But, the payload is actually G.729 encoded bytes. I've been attempting to unit test my DMO component. The DMORegister() succeeds, however, when I attempt to use WMP to playback a G.729 Encoded WAVE file, I still get the "... Audio codec needed to play this file .... " dialog. I'm using WMP as the EXE surrogate, directly from the VS2005 debugger. This is what my DMORegister looks like from within my DllRegisterServer() DMO_PARTIAL_MEDIATYPE InType; InType.type = MEDIATYPE_Audio; InType.subtype = MEDIASUBTYPE_WAVE; DMO_PARTIAL_MEDIATYPE OutType; OutType.type = MEDIATYPE_Audio; OutType.subtype = MEDIASUBTYPE_PCM; HRESULT hr = DMORegister(L"MyDMO", CLSID_MyDMO, DMOCATEGORY_AUDIO_DECODER, 0, 1, &InType, 1, &OutType); Am I doing something wrong in the DMORegister() ? I've seen some components that use WMPRegisterPlayerPlugin(), should I be using this? Am I correct in assuming that I can directly debug my component by setting breakpoints within and using WMP as an EXE surrogate?

Problem installing WMP9 Rights Manager...

Hi,

We're trying to install the WMP toolchain to encrypt content and use it on a
website with a try-before-you-buy (play) button.

Based on what we've read, we are trying to install the following components
in the order listed below:
1. WMP9 Encoder SDK
2. WMP9 SDK
3. WMP9 Service 4.1 SDK
4. WMP9 Rights Manager

The SDK's install without any problems but when we get to the Rights Manager
(#4), we get the following error message.

--- error message ---
Cannot install Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager
This Setup Program cannot install Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager on
your computer, because the following requirements are not met by your
computer:
- Microsoft Windows Media tools
- Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0 is not installed.

For links to the required components, press the "Support..." button.
--- error message ---
What's "Microsoft Windows Media tools" we've not been able to find any
references to it. The dialogue has "Support" and "Continue" buttons. The
Support button takes you to a generic support page...

We've tried the installation under Win2K, XP Pro, and Windows 2003 Advanced
Server with the same error.

Thanks, Roupen N.

2.Wmp9, Installed 819639 Now Wmp9 Will Not Start...

Had Wmp9 installed on WinXP, all worked fine with no noticeable
problems. Installed the update 819639 and now Wmp9 will not start.
For whatever reason, my System Restore also got honked up, where I did
not have the left calendar pane to restore back to. (I have that fixed
now but after the fact, with no restore point(s) available before the
update install.

I have tried to reinstall Wmp9 but have the same problem of not
starting. I checked the update install log and the update shows as
successful. The update is not listed in my Add/Remove Progrm list to
remove.

I also found that my Quick Time player was not able to start, but
reinstalling soved the problem. The WindowsXp welcome wave now does
not play and have not resolved that issue.

Searching Google and Yahoo have turned up no reference to the update
problem. Kelley's and Doug's websites have no reference so I am stuck
for the time being. I have not done a WinXp reinstall but may be
forced too yet I have a feeling that it will not resolve the update
trouble condition.

Thank You

Tony
