Streaming over UDP/IP
by bm_masri » Sat, 09 Oct 2004 05:53:56 GMT
Hello,
I'm new to the video streaming subject so this is a newbie question.
Please help me if you can.
I have an Ethernet Camera JVC C30U that can connect to the directly to
the Internet using Fast Ethernet 10/100 mbps cable and able to stream
MPEG1 or JPEG data over UDP/IP. UDP is needed in order to support
unreliable connectionless mode. However, On the receiving side, i
need an application/encoder (Like WIndows Media Player) that receives
this UDP MPEG1 or JPEG data and display it.
The question is does Windows Media Player support UDP and MPEG1/JPEG?
If not is there any encoder that will support this requirements?
Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed?
Thanks in advance!
Sam

Saying that you need UDP is not enough. What application
protocol over UDP do you need? For example, WMP supports
MMSU and RTP over UDP to receive ASF data. To receive MPEG-1
data, however, there is no UDP-based receiver that I know
of,
only TCP-based ones (the IE pluggable protocol handlers,
like HTTP, used by the URL reader). To receive JPEG, none at
all (only local file). Maybe some third-party source filters
for DirectShow exist (which would plug into WMP), but I do
not know of any.

1.Encode live UDP stream?
I am trying figure out how to push a UDP stream?
Under the "Output" panel I have tried.
Server Name: 207.181.x.x:1755
* Does not work - error: source can not be found.
Server Name: mms://207.181.x.x:1755
* Does not work - error: source can not be found.
Server Name: 207.181.x.x:80
* works
On the server I made sure Data Source excepts UPD.
Is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks,

2.embedding WMP9 with UDP streams in .NET/WMSDK
3.UDP or RTSP streaming problems
Please help
I'm using VLC as streaming server and by using mms I can recieve stream ok with wmp9. However, when changing to UPD or RTP wmp9 comes back by saying 'server is not responding'
Currently I've been testing this locally, so VLC send stream to 127.0.0.1 and wmp reads it from same ip and port I've defined (554 for RTP, 1755 for UDP). How can I recieve UDP (or RTP)?
So; by entering syntax mms://127.0.0.1:1755 to wmp9 'open URL' everything works. No other method works. What is the syntax with UDP (mmsu?) or RTP (RTSP? bit lascking info about this)
Running win2000, wmp 9.00.00.3075, VLC 0.7.
All help greatly, greatly appriciated!!!

4.C00D11CD when streaming UDP
We have a windows media server 2003 which happily streams TCP but fails to
negotiate a UDP stream. The RTP UDP packets are received by the client but
media player returns error C00D11CD.
Thanks
5.Switch crashes when watching UDP video streaming
I've got this weird problem in my LAN - I can crash my switch (i've
tried two Linksys and one DLink so far) when I am playing streaming
video with Windows Media Player and UDP protocol - it can take a few
seconds or a few minutes. I can reproduce the problem with a single
laptop or a single PC connected to the Switch. Router is a Alcatel
SpeedTouch. When the Switch crashes it seems to stay in a infinite
loop with the router (Switch-Router connection LED blinking at fast
rate - bouncing packets back and forth ?). Collision LED also blinks
at fast rate and connection is lost either inside the LAN either to
the internet - I have to unplug the Switch from power and plug it
again to restore normal functioning. I never had this problem when
connecting any computer directly to the router. Also, when i get this
problem if i plug the router directly to the PC, normal connection is
re-established so everything seems to be ok with the Router. If I
change to TCP streaming problem does not happen - I know for TCP there
is a client-server connection established so the router knows always
where to send the packets but with UDP which is connectionless
problemas may arise. I don't know why the Switch hangs - buffer
overrun ? CAM entry in the Switch times out ? I would appreciate any
ideas.
