i got a new computer for mothers day this last spring---i had windows98 and i am self taught for about 5 years now. i ordered a book manual instead of the on line manual--it used to work for me better expecially if i dont know how to get help. not this manual--they expect everyone knows and is upgrading. i know how to e-mail shop and search and thats all--have no clue how to file or make folders...for pictures and save certain info that ive researched--i think its called cut and paste? cant take a site i get geeked about and learn how to get it to an e-mail to send the site to a friend--- is there a book for dummies or anything eaisy for me to learn what this computer can do. when i cal for info from dell i cant understand the person talking me through on line and it depends on who you talk to as to how to fix a problem--and it never seems to get resolved. anyone going through the same thing? any info would be apprecialted. thanks

  • 4. windows XP wont let me past the welcome screen.
I have a laptop that came with windows 2000 installed on it. It is compatable with XP so I installed a 120 day trial pack. it was going alright, but the operating system didn't matter for what I use my laptop for. Well as it happened the CD drive kicked the bucket and by the time I got a new one the 120 days were up and it wouldn't let met me past the welcome screen. It told me that I need to install XP to use the computer, which is understandable. I borrowed tan XP CD form a friend in the hopes that I could get it reinstall windows 2000 once I got to the desktop. It didn't work. I cant figure out why. Does anyone know why?
  • 5. ntvdm.exe and cpu
Hi, I have on my notebook WinPro SP2 and recently I am observing that the file ntvdm.exe is adsorbing the whole CPU. In some cases, it seems (?) that it starts during (or after) the simple web exploration (please, let you notice that I was reading a newspaper web page, as usually, and I did some research by Google). I am not practice, but I does not seem to me that I used 16bit program or DOS application. Then, why ntvdm.exe starts? I used Spybot Search & Destroy, as well as F-Secure anti-virus, but I have not found any malware. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you in advance

My messages are not posted. Can anyone tell me why?

1."Cancel Message" is grayed out on my own posted messages

In OE, for many (but not all) messages that I've posted,
if I select the message (using the same account, etc, as
when posting) the "Cancel Message" item in the Message
menu is grayed out -- there seems to be no pattern as to
which of my posted messages can be cancelled. (At first
I thought it might have to do with whether there were
posted replies to the message, but that's not the case.)
OE Help says that Cancel should work on my own messages.

So what's the story? How do I cancel my message when
Message/Cancel Message is grayed-out?

(I'm running winXP Pro, IE/OE6, with latest upgrades,
and it's a single-user non-networked machine.)

4.Incorrect posting message

Has anyone else noticed that when you post a message, a box comes up saying
there was a problem and your post was not posted and that MS would be
notified? After trying to post twice with this message coming up each time,
I went to the discussions group and found the message WAS posted! This has
happened each time I post on two different computers.

5.Windows Mail - can't see my posted messages

There seems to be a delay in updating the screen. I have seen the problem
you describe. But if I go to another discussion, then come back, my post is
visible.
