I have one device running XP embedded with a 640x480 screen. I know XP is not designed to run with this resolution, everythings looks a little too big, but this no problem the customer has no normally contact with Windows, he interacts only with our software. But for service purposes I would like to have a cmd shell windows with a smaller font than 8x12 pixel. On XP pro I have several fonts I can choose from, in my XP embbeded I can only select one raster font 'Terminal' ( which is vgaoem.fon) regardless what fonts I install. If I manipulate the vgaoem.fon (in \winxpe\fonts) I get an error (on a text screen) while booting : 'Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \winxpe\system\vgaoem.fon' And Windows won't start anymore. Has anyone an idea how to use a smaller (or different) font in the cmd shell or what are the criteria for a font to be selectable in the cmd shell properties box??? Burkhard - 2. putty problem

XPe SP2: We would like to boot a fixed IDE flash drive and deploy the EWF overlays to a separate hard drive. This would permit overlay stacking with flash media and allow selective layered updates to the more reliable flash drive as required. None of the help screens place the EWF partition on nonboot media. All three modes (disk mode, ram mode, ram + Reg) all place the EWF overlay on the boot media or system RAM. Is there a way to locate overlays on nonboot media? Observations would be most welcome. Thanks! - 4. Printing questions
I've got 2 questions: 1. Is there a registry setting I can use to tell the spooler to purge any existing jobs when it starts? (I want it to clean itself when I reboot). 2. I'm seeing delay's in printing both in getting started and also between consecutive print jobs. I'd like to reduce this as much as possible... I've seen notes on some registry settings like: FastPrintThrottleTimeout, FastPrintSlowDownThreshold and FastPrintWaitTimeout but I can't find clear documentation on how to use them all together... My application is going to send multiple jobs to the spooler and I want them to print one after the other preferrably with no pause in between... I should note that I need registry settings because I'm using XPE... Any ideas on either??? Please email me if you can help. - 5. User State Data/Windows IE Cache settings....
Hello all, We want to hand out WinXP Tablets in a doctor/hospital environment that will allow patients to pay co-pays through an IE webpage. However, there is concern that patient information might be left over on the tablet, and could be found, thus violating HIPPA standards. Does Windows XP Embedded, after a reboot, keep IE cache files on the system? If someone were to take a WinXP tablet, could they use a HEX editor to view those files? Thanks, Blake

Before you invest a lot of time with MSDE, make sure that installing or disturbing the database does not violate your EULA EULA item # 12 "COMPANY may not distribute in any manner, or include in the image: (a) the Microsoft Data Engine or (b) the 'setup.exe' file contained in the SQLMSDE folder." I posted this a question about running a database on the NG a few days ago and I am still waiting for MS to give me an answer. Regards, Sean Gahan

I just purchased norton security and had a problem loading it. went to their web site and ran (3) programs that was to completely remove norton from the system and start clean.I did it and loaded every thing seems to work but when I start the machine up when window loads and my desktop icons are up a box comes up saying it is installing my printer (printer is working and installed) after i cancel out and after a few times it goes away, it also does it with my scanner and ati catylist program all the software is already loaded and working..is there somewhere I can go to stop the installing thanks jlm ps ..norton charges for any help by telephone so I'm hoping someone has had this problem
