  • 2. Lost contadt with Router
Hi, I was configuring my sisters' router and could do that using 192.168.1.1 and username/password. I did this OK and enabled security and everything worked (router would require that it restarted at different points of the procedures). However at some point the router stopped responding to the 192.168.1.1 address. Instead I just get a Google search page of results for 192.168.1.1. The router continues to work OK and I can access the internet fine. I just can't log back into the router. This happened once, we reset the router and regained access. Then when I reconfigured the router (just specified the wireless connections) it happened again. Wired access or wireless access allows connection to the internet but not to the router itself. A) Is this common? B) Can I determine exactly what IP address the router has (maybe some reason it changed from 192.168.1.1? Thanks, Montreal.
  • 3. WINXP Home/Professional Network PING problem
Hi everyone, Can someone explain this to me please. I have a 3 PC network (2 WINXP Home, 1 WINXP Prof) behind a router with DHCP enabled handing out IP addresses in the range 192.168.111.21 - 30. Each machine has a name: 'nx9005', 'COMPAQ' and 'TIME'. nx9005 (XP Pro) is my 'server' and is always on. Each machine receieves an IP address within the range. I can ping any machine by number and everything is OK. However, if I ping 'nx9005' by name the output shows my fully qualified computer name 'nx9005.fred.net' with the IP address of 217.68.70.69. If I ping 'TIME' by name, the same thing happens - TIME.fred.net and the same IP address (217.68.70.69) as before, even if it's switched off! Because of this behaviour I have to set a static address on 'nx9005' so that the other machines can reach it. What's going on? Thanks for your time. Fred
  • 4. Is it possible to open a network connection from command line?
Hello, I have set up a PPPoE connection in control panel network connection folder. I would like to open that PPPoE connection dialog box (like double click on its icon) using command line. Is this possible? Thanks for your information.
  • 5. Connected but not accessing internet
My wireless has not been working properly although the wlan is on and is connected to the network at 100% and the signal is "excellent" I cannot access any of my internet application. It keeps telling me I am not connected. Are there several reasons why this could be? Could it just be that my landlord has not paid their cable/internet bill seeing as its the first of the month? Just wondering if its a problem I can fix, thanks. -- Mstephe3

2.cans' move a computer account to a new OU within same domain

I don't understand why this does not work, I took this straight from the
technet script repository and amended it to my domain. I am signed on as the
domain admin when I run this script. Why does it not work?

I want o move a computer account from the default container, "computers" to
a more suitable OU, that being "userComps", an OU directly in the root of the
domain.

Please help!

Set objNewOU = GetObject("LDAP://OU=userComps,DC=daniel-ct,DC=co,DC=uk")

Set objMoveComputer = objNewOU.MoveHere _
    ("LDAP://CN=daniel-pjr0vps7,CN=Computers,DC=daniel-ct,DC=co,DC=uk",
"CN=daniel-pjr0vps7")

3.Vista trying to connect to domain when not connected

I am using Vista Enterprise which is setup by my corporation and I don't
have access to all settings, some might be related to group policies
etc. It is using a "roaming profile".

When I am home (connected to internet but not to my domain) Vista
sometimes try to connect to the domain, for example when I open a file
open/save dialog causing computer to stop responding for a while which
is very annoying.

Is there any way to avoid this problem other than using a local account
when I am at home (which I don't like because of having to duplicate
settings etc). Any magical setting to make it understand that I am not
connected to doamin and to stop trying.

4.error - Windows can not connect to the domain...domain controller

#1
Briefly here's the sequence:
- Running SBS2003 network
- Client machine is wireless laptop running XP Pro
- Want to connect this client to network
- Set up client computer account on server
- Set up user account on server
- ran \connectComputer on client - I logged in as network administrator
- Migrated user profile to maintain the users settings
- no errors in this process
- On reboot can only login locally as user, not to domain
- When I try to login to the domain (which shows up as an option) using the
login name of the user account as set up on server I get the error msg:
"Windows can not connect to the domain either because the domain controller
is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not
found...."

I checked computer account on server
Properties of client computer show nothing for the DNS name

Question: Should I just rerun \connectComputer or should I delete the
computer and user accounts, recreate them and the run \connectComputer?

#2 - Also, when setting up the client account on the server/client
applications page, if the client has Office 2003 installed and is updated do
I need to check IE6 and Outlook 2003? or have checked the "During Client
Setup, allow the selected applications to be modified"? I'm not sure of the
relationships here and what's going on in the background.

I'd appreciate a shove in the right direction - ... many thanks!
