Did any such device ever exist or could it be hacked up relatively easily? I am physically impaired and manually switching between the two devices is becoming a headache.
  • 3. Request for Product
Like a lot of people, I've been very happy to see new products come out for the Apple II recently. Big or small, they're all appreciated. I'm interested in finding someone who can design and possibly manufacture something I've been looking for, for a long time. There was a product listed in Nibble for a couple of months, then it was gone, something I wish was still available. I think it was call "ProSlot" - it was an adapter that allowed you to plug 2 cards into slot 7 (because of the extra room next to that slot). Only one card was active at a time, and obviously, you had to power off to change the active card. It was a nice idea, being able to leave a card installed in your machine that you might use often enough that it was hassle to plug/unplug and save wear and tear on your equipment. Well, thats the situation I'm in. I have a //e that I'd like to keep two cards in but don't have enough slots - a HS SCSI (used on occasion to test drives) and a IDE/CF card that is the //e's regular bootup device. All my other slots are occupied and performing critical tasks I don't want to give up. I don't know if this type of device would work well with faster controllers or not, and I'd like to hear some educated opinions. It doesn't seem to me that it would that complex of a project, and it would be a useful one too, probably for a lot of people. I think it would sell nicely. xtraslot4iie anyone?
  • 4. Apple][+ MouseText?
Is anyone aware of any board, product, program or hack which will allow the ][+ to display MouseText characters? -- Rob "Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity"
  • 5. Apple II RGB Monitor Problem
I recently picked up an Apple II RGB monitor (not the IIgs one) and the special card that goes with it. It works great, in fact some games like Kings Quest actually look better on the RGB monitor although the colors seem a bit off (the pink flag on the first castle is almost a lavender for instance). However when I tried Airheart I was shocked to see that the whole game was B&W! I've seen this kind of thing before on my Atari XE when I tried to play games that used artifacting using an S-Video connection (since it separates out the Chroma and Luma), but never on an Apple. Does this mean the RGB monitor is basically an S-Video connection? If so, how come Airheart looks ok on my IIgs with an RGB monitor?

001- Where can I get games for my Apple II?

There are many places you can get Apple II software, especially games:

o- Local Apple II Users Group (may be part of a Mac Group in your area)

o- Sellers of original and second-hand software (See ads on the comp.sys.apple2.marketplace newsgroup and sites, like KulaSoft, A2Central.com, and Shareware Solutions II.) Also check the Apple II FAQs Vendor listings:

Csa21MAIN3.txt
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs3VENDORS.html

o- Regular posters to this newsgroup will often send diskettes with some utilities and games for the cost of diskettes and mailing.

o- Apple II archives maintain large collections of software which you can download via PC and transfer to your Apple II. See the Apple II FAQs Game Site and Major Site listings:

Csa21MAIN3.txt
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs7GAMESITES.html
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs4MAJORSITES.html

----------------------------

002- Where can I find hints, docs, pictures, and other game information?

Several of the larger game archives offer docs, hints, cheats, and walkthroughs. Fewer go into copy deprotection and copying.

Three very good collections of Apple II game hints, docs, cheats, and solutions are on ...

Apple II Textfiles
http://www.textfiles.com/apple/

Asimov or an Asimov mirror
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/

GS WorldView's Archive
http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Docs/

You can find screen shot and game box pics-- great for making disk labels-- on some sites; but, no single archive or web page offers anything like a comprehensive selection.

Author, publisher, and historical information is relatively rare. One site, The Giant List, does a good job listing game authors along with their games, publishers, and dates.

If a game or series has its own web site, this will often be the best place to look for docs, support materials, pictures, and author/publisher info. Good examples are sites for Ultima, Bard's Tale, Infocom games, and the games published by Penguin/PolarWare.

001- Where can I get games for my Apple II?

There are many places you can get Apple II software, especially games:

o- Local Apple II Users Group (may be part of a Mac Group in your area)

o- Sellers of original and second-hand software (See ads on the comp.sys.apple2.marketplace newsgroup and sites, like KulaSoft, A2Central.com, and Shareware Solutions II.) Also check the Apple II FAQs Vendor listings:

o- Regular posters to this newsgroup will often send diskettes with some utilities and games for the cost of diskettes and mailing.

o- Apple II archives maintain large collections of software which you can download via PC and transfer to your Apple II. See the Apple II FAQs Game Site and Major Site listings:

002- Where can I find hints, docs, pictures, and other game information?

Several of the larger game archives offer docs, hints, cheats, and walkthroughs. Fewer go into copy deprotection and copying.

Three very good collections of Apple II game hints, docs, cheats, and solutions are on ...

Apple II Textfiles

Asimov or an Asimov mirror
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/documentation/
