If I have an machine on V5R3 of OS400 and I want to go to V5R4 must I upgrade the HMC first?? How would this apply if you wanted to go to V6R1 from V5R3, I am not sure if a direct upgrade path exists for this.
  • 2. Simple questions about building C program
Hello all, I've successfully built the scripting language Lua on a timeshare AS/ 400. The interpreter works just fine, but it does not seem to want to load files from the IFS, I'm assuming fopen() is looking in the Library/Object system, and not the unix-y IFS, where my files are. Is this an option I need to check in CRTCMOD? Also, to make my building process painless, is it possible to make a list of CRTCMOD commands in a text file on the IFS, and then at the end, have my CRTSVRPGM command, and say to the AS/400 "call these lines in order?" I'd really like to keep this file on the IFS, as I can easily edit it over FTP. To an experienced OS/400 user, that will sound like the silliest question even made on Usenet, but even so... Cheers Garry

qsh: 001-0019 Error found searching for command CD.

We bought Iseries 800 Model last week. We are running V5R2.

When I try to run CD /QDLS in QShell I get following message:
qsh: 001-0019 Error found searching for command CD.

FIND, LS works. What am I missing here?

lower case "cd" rather than "CD" -- it's case sensitive.

2.using QSH and the grep command to search for sensitive data strings

Hello,

I've heard good things about using grep to search for strings across
files in the filesystem; I've also seen where you could use this on
physical files and members; however, when I tried to get this to work,
using:

grep 'XXXX$' /QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB/USRLST.FILE/*

I got the following message

grep: 001-0023 Error found opening file /QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB/
USRLST.FILE/USRLST.MBR. Operation not supported.

I've seen a few things on google showing people have been successful
doing this, so I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't work for me...is
there something i'm missing? Not really a lot of documentation to go
on, could anybody offer some assistence to get this to work correctly?

Thanks,

Chris

5.QSH question about killing commands that read from standard input (Keyboard)

In Unix you just stopped these things with a Ctrl-D or whatever you
had set for your EOF character. So if you're in QSH and you typed a
command in wrong and it wants to read from the keyboard, how do you
break out without having to F3 out of qsh?
