  • 1. Creating new templates with Visual Studio .Net
We are trying to create a new template and based on the MCMS 2002 Help file it states: To create a new MCMS project 1. In Visual Studio .NET, on the File menu, click New, and then click Project. 2. In the New Project dialog box, in the Project Types list, expand Content Management Server Projects. When we open up Visual Studio .Net on our client we don't see Content Management Server Projects. Does Visual Studio .Net also need to be installed on the server to make the CMS Projects available?
  • 2. where are the docs?
I'm trying to work with dynamic publishing, specifically I want to create postings via an .asp program. I've found lots of useful code snippets, so I know how to create a posting and populate it in asp code, but I'm running into two dead ends. I would appreciate any help with where to find documentation on these two items. BTW, we are currently migrating to CMS 2002, but this site needs to go up now, so I'm doing this in CMS 2001. (1) autosession must be in update mode. I can only find info on how to check what mode you're in, not how to set it. Where is this documented? (2) I'm finding lots of code snippets, but nothing with the overall picture. E.g. is this code better in a template or as separate asp code in /nr/shared/? thanks for any pointers- Susan

Compilation Error

Postby QmVja3k » Sat, 16 Oct 2004 04:01:09 GMT

I'm trying to update files on our web server, however after I upload the new
files and DLL I get a compilation error:
BC31011: Unable to load referenced library
'c:\windows\microsfot.net\framework\v1.1.4322\temporary asp.net files\root\
etc... \rootredirect.dll' Access is denied. The rootredirect.dll is in the
bin folder of the site.

This error is gone when I undo the changes, and I do not get it in my
development environment (my local machine, which does not have the
rootredirect.dll).

The only changes I made where to add 2 ascx files, modify the aspx file to
include the ascx files and a XML file.
I've searched on the error and haven't been able to find anything, has
anyone else encountered this problem or something similar?

Thank you,
Becky

Becky,

Don't think this has to do with CMS in particular, but try deleting the
files from the temporary folder then doing an iisrest and try.

also, I found this string describing how someone was able to get it to work.

hope this helps.

Thanks. After more searching and digging at www.asp.net I think I found a
possible resolution. Having Indexing Services not index the temp folders. I
will give this a shot after hours.

Hello Becky,

Becky... clear out the templ ASP.NET files. Happens at times, but rarely.

Thank you for the suggestion, I did do this but still received the error.
Turning Indexing Service off for the Temp ASP.NET files seems to have fixed
the problem.

compilation error

Postby Dariusz Tomon » Tue, 17 May 2005 00:17:45 GMT

i

I came across strange situation after installing SharePoint Services 2.0,
Office Project Server 2003 and Service Pack 1 on my MCMS box (Win 2003).
I'm not sure if the a.m. software could conflict somehow with cms but I
mention it jus in case (before my compilation process went smoothly).

Now I suffer the following.
Whenever I rebuild solution (with no errors) and try to open my cms site I
get the compilation error (described below). Then I rebuild solution once
again and reopen my site. This time everything is OK. I tried to rebuild
twice at once but with the same result.
I always have to open page read the error then back to VS - rebuild solution
then I can open site - strange.
This is my error:

Server Error in '/isic2' Application.

i Dariusz,

that is more an ASP.NET question.
It might be a permission problem that the temporary files generated during
compilation cannot be placed into the temp directory and later they cannot
be found.

You might want to check on an ASP.NET related newsgroup.

Cheers,
Stefan

hank you it occured that after rebooting the problem vanished.
Now I suffer another problem:

When I copy/paste postings from one channel to another I get always locking
owner mcms (it's my cms administrator).
I cannot to kill lock and even though I can see these postings in SM there
are no waiting for approval postings as well as no in production postings.
So I don't know how can I get to these postings?

here can I check it?
In SM there is no state property.
When I'm trying to display the posting I get
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I don't know how can I check this property.

i Dariusz,

in Webauthor the state is written out.
If you don't get to it then retrieve it using PAPI
(Searches.GetByPath(...));

Cheers,
Stefan

Re: compilation error

eside that: if you have a dynamic navigation control (as you should have
with MCMS) browse to a different posting in this channel and switch to edit
mode.
Then all postings will show up in the navigation control and you could jump
to the affected posting in unpublished mode and check the state here.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Re: compilation error

Then all postings will show up in the navigation control" - if we are
talking about approval assistent or production manager - There are no
postings. When I switch to edit I can't see any other postings.
Anyway I managed another way. This is by accident. I logged in to SM with
Administrator (system account with assigned roles of administrators, channel
manager and so on).
Then I copied some postings from one channel to another and this time these
postings appeared later in web authoring console in production manager
section.
But what is strange for me when I was logged in as mcms (this is my mcms
creator - administrator used during instalation) all postings copied this
time got mcms lock and they did not appeared in web authoring cosole in
production manager section.
So because mcms user and administrator has got similar rights (of course
mcms has got stronger ones) how can we explain this behaviour?
I'm a bit confused

i Dariusz,

no I was talking about a navigation control not about web author dialogs.
If you don't see any other postings then you did not implement a dynamic
navigation control for your site.
Copying postings from SiteManager is bad practice and should not be done.
It will let the postings in a state where they need to be approved using Web
author anyway - so you should also do the copy in web author.

I would suggest to add a dynamic navigation control to your templates to
ensure that all postings in the channel get listed.
If this is not an option write a console application that automatically
approves all the affected postings.

Cheers,
Stefan

i Dariusz Tomon,
Think that this problem exists because of your dll dependencies. It means
that one of your application get compiled before the parent application gets
compiled. So, try giving the PROJECT BUILD ORDER option by right-click on
your project from the project solution explorer.

Regards.
