OT: Application to automate process of building forms from a SQL DB

  • 1. Session DataAdapter / DataSet
I have an asp.net page that works great in VB.NET, however, I can't seem to get it to work in C#. The VB.NET code is... session("da") = New SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, cn) session("ds") = New DataSet session("da").Fill(session("ds"), "titles") session("dtSource") = session("ds").Tables("titles") I'm trying the following C# code but it wont compile... Session["da"] = new SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, cn); Session["ds"] = new DataSet(); Session["da"].Fill(Session["ds"], "titles"); Session["dtSource"] = Session["ds"].Tables("titles"); .Fill and .Tables causes the error. I've tried... (SqlDataAdapter)Session["da"].Fill(Session["ds"], "titles"); (DataSet)Session["dtSource"] = Session["ds"].Tables("titles"); but still wont compile. Any thoughts on how I can correct this issue? I do require these in session... trying to port an old VB.NET app. Thanks in advance. Kal
  • 2. Compare Strings
Hello - I am a converted VB programmer. What I am trying to do it compare two strings in an if statement. The problem is that when I use string.compare it always returns a negative 1. I have entered the same string, different strings. The string is loaded from the results from a dataset. The other string is loaded from a textbox. Could someone please help me in this situation? Thanks much. Drew
  • 3. A reference to value type (double)
Hello, I am a C++ developer converting to C# but I am still thinking in C++ way :) In C++ I can do this: double* p1 = new double; double* p2 = p1; *p1 = 5.0; *p2 = 7.0; Now both *p1 and *p2 have value 7 (they are pointing the same address in memory). Now I would like to achieve the same thing in C# (I would like to have a reference to double) but if I do this: System.Double a = new System.Double(); System.Double b = a; a = 5; b = 7; It will not work. I understand that his because double is a value type and it cannot be used as a reference no matter what (System.Double is value type). So far the only other way to go around this problem is to use a class with double value inside than I can create as many references to the object as I need. Is my thinking correct ? Thank you J. • 4. App wont work on a Vista 64bit machine
Hello, Someone using an application I developed using .NET 2008 / 3.5 framework is failing to launch. Is there something I need to specifically set on my build to enable it to work in that environment? I left everything at default. Another thing is I used Xheo CodeVeil 1.0 to encrypt my assembly to protect it's source. Could this be causing the problem on his machine? It runs fine on any 32 bit machine I have available to try it on and no one else I sent this to is complaining... Any ideas on how to diagnose this and/or resolve it?

Is there a software you can recomend that helps build a form or a inet-form
from a SQL DB?

I have a database with rules, triggers, tables and so on and i want to build
forms and so on from the database...

I have looked on a program that is called Constructor() but i wasn't
satisfyed completley with this...

Any suggestions?

1.Any body give me a hand on automate my build process

Hi all;
I have a client/server application that are built in VC .NET. The
source codes are versioned in Perforce. I need automate the process to:
Setup environment variable, Check out latest changes, build
Client/Server projects, copy files to desired location, and so on.
Anybody can give me some references on this topic.

Thank you very much.

4.Automate / Productanalize the Cube & Dimension building process?

I have 10 large cubes in Production (MSAS 2005). Each cube has monthly
partitions (48 for 4 years). Also I have several TIME related dimensions.

We have to do ullprocess of these cubes monthly. I have the following

1.	Since we do full process of the cubes and the row counts change for each
partition every month, do I have to go back and redo aggregation design on
each partition for all the 10 cubes every month? (10 X 48 = 480 Partitions)

If yes, is there an easy way to do this? Is there sample code that takes the
cube name and rebuild aggregations for all the partitions?

2.	For all the TIME dimensions (Named Queries), I have to go back and change
the here clause to include the latest month for every monthly rerun. Please
suggest if there is a programmatic way to build the dimensions so that I can
automate the dimension building process.

Any references to how to productanalize the whole dimension and cube
building process will be helpful.

Thanks a bunch,

5.ClickOnce C++ application: Limited options in automated build?

I want to distribute a .NET 2.0 C++ application with ClickOnce. Since it is
C++, there is no support for ClickOnce in the project settings of
VisualStudio 2005. With MageUI everything would be fine, but because we have
an automated build procedure, it is necessary to use the commandline of mage.
Unfortunately, this has only limited options, for example the application
icon in the start menu cannot be set and there are no options with regard to
the update behaviour of the application. So my question is how to configure
these options in an automated build procedure.
I also saw that there are MSBuildTasks that can generate the application and
deployment manifest, but after some investigation I had the impression that
they are mainly used for the integrated ClickOnce support in C# projects and
not really recommended for manual build scripts. In case that is the way to
achieve my goal, it would be good to know if there is some kind of tutorial
on how to use these MSBuildTasks.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
