  • 1. Ingres/ICE (3.0.2) and Apache 2.0.54
Hello World I've recently installed Apache 2.0.54 and then installed ingres r3 3.0.2 using the ICE option. Has anyone managed to do this successfully? Added the Include 'C:/ingres/r3/ingres/ice/bin/apache/ice.conf' and amended the ice.conf Getting the following errors: [Wed Sep 21 10:15:24 2005] [notice] Parent: Received shutdown signal -- Shutting down the server. [Wed Sep 21 10:15:24 2005] [notice] Child 4532: Exit event signaled. Child process is ending. [Wed Sep 21 10:15:24 2005] [error] (OS 10022)An invalid argument was supplied. : Child 4532: Encountered too many errors accepting client connections. Possible causes: dynamic address renewal, or incompatible VPN or firewall software. Try using the Win32DisableAcceptEx directive. I was wondering if anyone has got ICE working on 3.0.2 on XP? and if someone could advise what web server and version you are using? Ideally i'm trying to select pictures from the database. (blobstor used to insert/update images) but not 100% sure the best way to select them. Thanks very much in advance, m00n

It was built using Apache 1.3 and I believe is not compatible with 2.0.x. Apart from downgrading apache to 1.3 the other options are: - use ICE in CGI mode - use PHP's ingres extension <bias>I must declare my interest in the second option since I am updating PHP's ingres extension. As of 10 minutes ago it has the ability to fetch BLOBs from ingres stored using the blobstor program. The source is available in CVS - I can send you an experimental DLL should you wish.</bias> Regards, grant

restoring client configuration (files/symbol.tbl): II_GCNre_PORT

Postby Kevin Rodgers » Sat, 28 Feb 2004 06:12:49 GMT

Somehow the files/symbol.tbl file was corrupted on one of our client
machines. It looks like I can just copy a valid file from another
client, and fix 2 values that vary across the clients:
II_GCNre_LCL_VNODE (the machine name) and II_GCNre_PORT.

Is there a configuration file on the server or a system table that
lists the II_GCNre_PORT for each client, so I know what value to use for
this particular machine?

Thanks,

Leave II_GCNre_PORT undefined. It will be redefined when the name
server starts up.

1.corrupting symbol.tbl on network install of OpenROAD

Good morning,

Setup.
1/Unix server running Ingres 2.6. On solaris 9.
2/Image server running OpenROAD 4.1 on windows 2000. It uses a IngNet
connection to the above unix box.
3/ OpenROAD is on a network drive. It is not installed on the users
PCs.

I am hoping that you could provide me with some information as to why
the symbol.tbl file on a windows 2000 machine appears to corrupt. And
seems to prevent users from connecting.

I have seen a number of posts of the symbol.tbl corrupting and that the
solution is to copy an uncorrupt file back into place. I have a few
questions.
- Is there a fix for this?
- Or is a known issue that CA will get around to looking at?
- Whyis the file being corrupted?
- Would just setting a read-only flag on the symbol.tbl prevent
corruption or cause more problems?

Apologies for all the questions. I am not that familer with the details
of OpenROAD. I thank you in advance for your information.

2.Truncating symbol.tbl on NT

Hi,

We install our OpenROAD / Ingres Net onto a network drive, and all users
then use this copy. We're currently running :

OR R 4.1/0302 (int.w32/00)	Patch 9409
and
Ingres Net 2.0	(2.5 does not work in a shared environment)

(Hitting 2.0 DBMS's on a number of HP-UX boxes)

We're currently experiencing a problem whereby for no (apparent) reason
symbol.tbl truncates itself. We write to this file when doing an image
promotion, but at no other time is it written to. It appears to be
truncating after users run the command 'ingstart -client' (because it's
installed on a network drive we can't start IIGCN & IIGCC as services).

It's a simple matter to fix (we keep a backup & copy it over whenever anyone
complains about not being able to run 4gl applications) but it's not a very
elegant / satisfactory solution. Does anyone out there have experience of
this problem (I understand it's a known bug under UNIX:

 APAR #: UK026779
Product: INGINS Release: 6.4/01 Solution #: 14 Type:
OS: UNIX Group: INGRES ISL SUP 2
Title: A possible workaround to the symbol.tbl file being truncated

but can't find a mention of it under NT, and the UNIX fix isn't really
practical for NT), and a reason for it / even a fix?

Thanks in advance

Ian

3.Symbol.tbl zero size and 506 error

Hello,

Our Ingres installation went weird on us this morning, deleting
symbol.tbl, turning off the archiver and the dbms processes. This has
happened before, but we can't recreate it. I just keep a copy of the
file around as a backup, stop the Ingres service, replace the empty file
and restart everything.

After restoring the symbol.tbl, we tried to run a session from our MRP
application, only to get a 506 error on a necessary table.

Anyone seen a table disappear like this in their Ingres environment?
This is a new one for us, so any thoughts (aside from suggesting an OS
change<g>) will be appreciated.

We're NT 4.0 SP6a/Ingres 2.0 8125/5 hours to Budweiser time.

4.Question about Filemaker Server Client configuration

Hi All,

Tell me if this is possible. I have a database of images and I perform
some image processing functions on these images and store the result
back into filemaker database. I am using some third party plugins to do
the image processing stuff. My plugins use some speacial libraries to
perform the image processing functions that I need. Till here
everything is fine and My database works completely fine as a desktop
application.

Now I want to share this database over a network, so that some body can
access it from a client machine. What I want to do is, to have a
flexibility that whenever a user enters an image in the database, it
comes to the server, gets processed and displays the result back to the
client. In short I want all the calculations to be done on the server
machine and not on the client machine. The libraries that I am using
for the image processing calculations cannot be used on the client
machines without a license. Hence the difficulty.

Please tell me if this is possible. Any suggestions will be helpful.
Also should I go in for ODBC connectivity for this kind of database
sharing? Please Help.

Thanks,
Abhi

5.SSL client configuration ...

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Hi all,

In order to setup a SSL connection to the DataBase I did the following:

- compiled --with-openssl
- ssl=true in postgresql.conf
- hostssl all dbuser 212.205.129.107 255.255.255.0 md5 in
pg_hba.conf
- generated server.crt and server.key as recommended in Administrator's
Guide

Then when I tried to connect (via jdbc driver) I get the following error
from the postmaster:
FATAL: no pg_hba.conf entry for host "::ffff:212.205.129.107", user
"dbuser", database "template1", SSL off

It seems that the client appliaction tries to connect without SSL ???

PS: Also at start up I have some warnings from postmaster :
LOG: could not load root certificate file
"/home/pagomen/PostGress/data/root.crt": No such file or directory
DETAIL: Will not verify client certificates.
LOG: could not bind IPv4 socket: Address already in use
..
LOG: database system is ready

Any ideas ?
George
