Ingres doesn't implement anything in the way of SQL date formatting functions. I think the original assumption was that you'd use a report writer or other wrapping application to do detailed formatting, rather than try to make SQL do formatting. If you are really desperate you can build something out of date_part() and character functions, but it won't be pretty. As for input forms, read SQL Reference section that talks about date literals. The accepted dates depend on your II_DATE_FORMAT setting. Karl
  • 2. Sub-select errors
I am trying to write an SQL update statement. It updates certain customers records (top 100 of those with a certain balance.) My first try had a simple Update statement with a sub-select and order-by. Fairly simple. update nb.customers set .... where cust_id in (select first 100 from nb.customers where balance > 5000 order by balance desc) The system gave syntax errors. I then tried to do it in two steps. First step is to create a temporary table to bypass the restriction of no order clause in sub-selects. But it too got the same error. My third try was to create a view but it too had the same error. Here is my create table statement: create table nb.feb_sales (cust_id, cust_name) as select first 100 cust_id, cust_name from nb.customers where balance > 50000 order by balance desc Am I doing something wrong or does ingress have a different way of doing this?
  • 3. Odd error?
I am trying to create a sequence via an odbc connection. I am using this statement: create sequence nb.xyz start with 10 It fails with error message saying: [Ingres][Ingres ODBC Driver][Ingres]Syntax error on line 1. Last symbol read was: 'create sequence'. The funny thing is, if I enter this directly in to Visual SQL window, it works just fine. Is there a configuration option that I need to add?
  • 4. Date display
I am having some trouble with dates in Ingres. Are there special codes or format characters that I can use to display dates in different formats? (In one report, I need to display the same date in two different ways in different sections. Like this: March 5, 2007 and "07-03-05".) On a related note, the app receives the report date from the user. Is there a particular format that I need to impose on the date input? Or, is the user free to enter in any format and I can simply say date('user-input') as long as it is a valid date?

Thats also good. The ipcrm commands I gave you were an
example based on the prior output you sent. They aren't needed if the
ipcs is clean.

4.[Info-ingres] Need help to restore ingres appl

Hi k.saravanan

Whoa - OI 1.2/01 on SCO! Now that's a blast from the past.

As I see it, you have two problems. The first is the data load to the new
installation. The second is getting the original installation back up.

My suspicions about your copy problems are:
1. The table that rollsback after a few hours.
I suspect that its not bulk loading, but has started incremental
logging. Hence it takes forever, and eventually fills up your Transaction
log and goes into rollback.

Ensure that the sequence of events in the copy.in is create
table, copy table from ..., modify table to structure.

2. The errors on 'p_and_f'. I'm going to guess that the data source is an
ASCII unload. If so you should be actually able to examine the data file
in the editor and see what value it is trying to load on row 2.

Exactly what is the definition of this 'p_and_f' column? These
don't look like date errors.

As for restarting the old Ingres server.
Before you attempt to restart it, was your Ingres Transaction Log on the
disk that completely failed? Is it a raw device? Exactly what was on that
disk, data? journal whatever. How was the stuff from the old disk
moved to the new disk.
