It doesn't, actually. Where is this format coming from? What
Ingres version, and how are you retrieving the date? It looks
like you might have been using the interval function somehow.

Hi ,

we are migrating data to an ingres database.

The data is in a flat file(text file, one record per line) with the vaues.

The text file is generated uing java program, while creating the flat file
we need to change the data format as recognised by ingres.

we are facing problem to convert date format in java to the format
recognized by ingres.

Ingres stores date format like "3239.83".

Any suggestions?

Puneet

Puneet,

Ingres doesn't have dates like that. Where did you get that idea?

It is a little-known fact than an earlier draft of the final line of the film Gone with the Wind had Clark Gable saying 'Frankly my dear, i don't give an epworth', the line being eventually changed on the grounds that it might not be understood in Cleveland.

his is a multi-part message in MIME format.

With respect, how ingres stores dates is of little consequence here.
The important thing is how it represents them as character strings for
input & output, and here you're in luck because it can handle a large
number of different formats.

Check out the II_DATE_FORMAT environment variable/logical in the System
Administrator's Guide (Appendix A).

e.g.
GERMAN > dd.mm.ccyy
MULTINATIONAL > dd/mm/yy
MULTINATIONAL4 > dd/mm/ccyy
FINLAND > ccyy-mm-dd

It is important to note that dates imported in one particular format can
then be displayed in any other format without changing the underlying
value. That is, you may have a text file containing GERMAN dates, but
that doesn't mean that you're stuck with that format for everything else
you do in ingres.

Thats also good. The ipcrm commands I gave you were an

The ASP app was, but the ICE app was not directly. Report Writer
internally should work with query assembly when passing parameters to
run a report.

Yes.

No, when I said application layer, I wanted to say the problem was not
in database server.

Leandro.

Hi k.saravanan

Whoa - OI 1.2/01 on SCO! Now that's a blast from the past.

As I see it, you have two problems. The first is the data load to the new
installation. The second is getting the original installation back up.

My suspicions about your copy problems are:
1. The table that rollsback after a few hours.
I suspect that its not bulk loading, but has started incremental
logging. Hence it takes forever, and eventually fills up your Transaction
log and goes into rollback.

Ensure that the sequence of events in the copy.in is create
table, copy table from ..., modify table to structure.

2. The errors on 'p_and_f'. I'm going to guess that the data source is an
ASCII unload. If so you should be actually able to examine the data file
in the editor and see what value it is trying to load on row 2.

Exactly what is the definition of this 'p_and_f' column? These
don't look like date errors.

As for restarting the old Ingres server.
Before you attempt to restart it, was your Ingres Transaction Log on the
disk that completely failed? Is it a raw device? Exactly what was on that
disk, data? journal whatever. How was the stuff from the old disk
moved to the new disk.
