How to Update from D3 Pro to D2005 Pro?
by Michael Stum » Tue, 26 Oct 2004 05:02:59 GMT
Hello,
i have a question about the Upgrade Procedure:
I have delphi 3 Pro. I want to buy the Upgrade to Delphi 2005 Pro.
Is there any "check" to see if i may update? Delphi 3 does not have a serial
number, and it was brought be a different dealer (Amazon to be exact). So
how will the dealer know that i may update? Do I need to have my Delphi
Invoice? Would be bad, i don't have it anymore :-| (I can still see my order
at Amazon if that would help). Do i need to send in my CD? Do i scan it? Do
I know all-mighty Jedi Powers to persuade the dealer of my legitimation? ;-)

Why don't you just buy the update directly from Borland?

The dealer probably couldn't care less. (I mail-ordered the D7 upgrade
(from D3Pro) and wasn't asked any questions. But I could - if need be -
prove any time that my upgrade is legit.)

Because my local Distributor can supply it alot cheaper. I'll speak to them
later on to see how the upgrade procedure is.

1.Still at Update 1 after installing Update 2 on D2005 Pro
I just installed the D2005 Pro Update 2. It seemed to install successfully.
It took about an hour, asked me to insert two of the D2005 CDs along the
way, and seemed to finish successfully with no error messages. But
Help/About still shows Update 1 and build 9.0.1761.24408. According to a
message I saw posted in non-tech, the build should be 9.0.1882.30496.
What went wrong, and what can I do about it?
Thanks,

2.D2005 pro v. D7 pro
We're considering upgrading but need details before spending the money.
Particularly interested in whether or not the IDE has any big improvements
such as form-undo (the feature matrix suggests that is only available in the
Architect edition).
I'm working on a big project in D7 right now and only plan to write this app
for ordinary Win 2k, XP machines as an installable front end exe (VCL only
and with Delveoper Express products [versions 5] and Fast Reports 3).
I found the feature matrix on the Borland website but that's too much
information and doesn't compare older versions to new. I'm trying to find
something that shows the differences between Delphi 2005 PRO and Delphi 7
PRO. It seems like it would be easy for Borland to put things like that
together since they have detailed features information for all their
products.
I'm also wondering if there's a trial version of Delphi 2005 PRO available.
I have no need for Architect version so examining the trial version of
Delphi 2005 Architect is a waste of time for me. (unless there's some sort
of switch in it that allows one to set it to PRO or Enterprise edition).
Thanks for any info,
Keith
3.D8 Pro Update from D7 Pro
4.D2005 Pro Update2 updates nothing!
5.D2005 Pro Update 2
I have downloaded the Update 2 from the Borland website and tried to
install.
I get the following error
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service
because
the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a
different
version of the program......"
I have found that this error comes up when you have installed the earlier
version of Update 1,
which is what I have. I have searched all through the newsgroups and the
only solution that I can
find is to uninstall everything and then re-install from scratch and apply
only Update 2.
Are there any fixes out there that I have missed, or will I need to
reinstall from scratch?
Thanks for any help,
Luke Johnston.
