Is resource file compulsory for my driver to be built? Are entries in the resource files are part of the image ie,.sys files. can I change the entries in reource file after building the driver so that I can have different entries at different times(basically without building the driver again). with the same driver code if I need to build my driver with two product Names: 1.ABC 2.QWE
  • 2. ischronous R/W problem on Vista 32
Hi, I am facing difficulty with isochronous transfers in Vista. This same code worked well under XP SP2. Iso works fine the first time. But when the stream is stopped and started it does not. The urb fails with all packets returning USBD_STATUS_ISO_NOT_ACCESSED_BY_HW. Interestingly the duration of the stoppage also matters. If the stream is stopped for less than approximately 2 seconds before restarting, things resume fine. If stopped for more than 2 seconds packets fail. While submitting the URB I used USBD_START_ISO_TRANSFER_ASAP always and with no problems at all in XP Beleiving this could be a problem in Vista is am trying doing away with the ASAP flag and tried using the StartFrame member instead, but to no resolution Any other suggestion would be helpful. TIA Sibi

Hello, I'm new to driver authoring and want to know some simple question's answers. 1-WinDDK is enough to develop MS-based device drivers? 2-Do i need/have to know programming languages like c++? 3-Is WDK (or called WinDDK) avaible for download? Sorry for these basic questions but i need to know. Best regards...

First this is a poor idea, anything that assumes a user is present
(otherwise why are you doiing this) in a kernel mode driver shows a bad
desing. If beeps are all you do need and recognizing that you really
should not do this, seach the groups for HalMakeBeep.

Hello Don,

in this case the shutdown was initiated by a user, which does not see the
screen ( as the machine can be fixed in a wall and he is behind the wall,
but has different possibilities to interact running transactions ) and he
should know, when he's allowed to power off the pc.
Consider, your OS is not only used for home desktops.
Windows is sometimes put ( OS/2 is still dying ) on self service terminals
with other handlings ( so please do not talk about design; within the
shutdown handler i also show pictures with informations on why the shutdown
occured ( blackout, invalid config, external shutdown event, .. ) and what
should be done next...informational text for the people in front of the
machine; if there is a rear service diplay connected too, than more fun is
produced... ).

Until now ( a buzzer was connected ) i beeped via the beep driver.
Does HalMakeBeep() really go through the sound card?

Thank you,
- b

Nope, HalMakeBeep will probably not go through the sound card. I suspect
you will have to do KS stuff I would ask this question at
 http://www.**--****.com/

I do know about non-desktop systems and that is why I cautioned you, since
I have had the joy of dealing with drivers that knew there was a sound card
or video or other such nonsense and watching the results when it was not
there. Since this is an essentally embedded environment your design is
fine, but without that piece of data my comments are needed.

3.Sound files all play too fast - possible driver solution

I also had my sound files playing at double speed and downloaded 12-15
patch/update files from various sites, e.g. Intel 815 chipset update,
HP/Compaq AC97 driver updates, etc, and nothing seemed to work. I knew
it was something to do with getting a SoundMAX Integrated Digital
Audio driver to replace my AC97 one. Finally after losing the plot
several times with my pc i found the SoundMAX driver on another
similar machine (150 Kb zipped), installed it and bingo! i have calmed
down by listening to my 'Calming' music :)

My pc is a Compaq Deskpro PIII 733MHz 128RAM with integrated sound.
I don't have a place to put the driver i found (is there one
available) but if anyone wants it feel free to send me an email.

4.Play sound from multiple devices

When I plug a phone jack into my laptop, it now plays through the
external speakers via the jack.

Question: Is this a hardware connection that is broken ? or is there
a software decision in the driver to play through the external
devices ?

Is there a setting somewhere (registry or API) that I can set the
system to play through the external and internal speakers ?

Or: Can I set the system to send sound to multiple devices if
installed multiple sound devices ?

Thanks

Sid.
