  • 1. Problem with .NET remoting and Hashtable
I have a serializable class called MyFile in Server-side. Like this: <Serializable()> _ Public Class MyFile Public Binaari() as Byte Public Function Upload(ByVal fileName As String) As Boolean Dim file As System.IO.FileStream file = New IO.FileStream(fileName, IO.FileMode.Open) Dim byteArray(CType(file.Length - 1, Integer)) As Byte file.Read(byteArray, 0, CType(file.Length, Integer)) Binaari = byteArray file.Close() file = Nothing End Function End Class Client uses .NET remoting (HTTP; Binary as formatter) to use Server-side classes. I create new instance from MyFile class in Client and I call Upload method to upload file to byte array. Public Class ClientTest Private hTable As New Hashtable Private Sub Test() Dim olio As New MyFile olio.Upload("C:\Test.txt") hTable.Add("Key", olio) End Sub End Class If I introduce hTable variable after I use Upload method everything works ok, but if I introduce hTable variable before I use Upload method I got an error: "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object". Why? If I change Hashtable to arraylist it also works fine. I Think .NET remoting call causes Hashtable variable to lose it's handle.... Tommi
  • 2. Must remoting use the thread pool?
Hi, use form.Invoke to pump the calls to forms UI thread. Sunny In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >, XXXX@XXXXX.COM says... > Hi. > > We've got a legacy MFC MDI app that functions as a server for simple > client applications. • 3. unregistering?
Hi all, I have: a classLibrary with a remotable object in it, a windows Server app that registers the remotable object as a wellknown service type, and a windows client app that registers the same remotable as a wellknown client type. The first thing I did was run the client without running the server and I was of course unable to connect to it to complete the remotable object method call I was making to the remotable object. Next, I started the server, then ran the client once again and this time I was able to connect and get the desired results. Now I kill the server app and then run the client yet again. To my surprise, the client was still able to get the remotable results. I expected the server app to more or less dictate the lifetime of the remotable object. Could someone please explain how the client is still able to get results even when the server app is not running? thanks, Sean
  • 4. why do I keep Getting this error?
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it I have a very simple remoting test solution and I cannot connect to my server object from the client. I am using Activator.Getobject() and an AbstractClass for method definitions. Any ideas? Thanks Nick

4.Updating the value of Sales Header automatically in Sales Line

I am using Microsoft Navision ERP. I have created one field in Sales
Line Header Table and One Field in Sales Line Table. I want whenever a
value is entered in above Sales Header Field the same should
automatically gets updated in Sales Line Field of that particular
Sales Order.

Can any body guide me how to achieve above functionality?

5.Options for a distributed Sales Force app

What solutions would you recommend for the following requirements:
1. Sales force is distributed accross the country. Sometimes connected,
sometimes not.
2. Need to see data in a grid format, web or windows based. Would be nice if
it was launched from the intranet portal.
3. Would like the solution to link to originate from a web portal. If not
connected, redirect or go somwhere else?
4. Clients are on I.E. 6, strict security on windows xpsp2 (firewall), and
do not have sql 2005 express. Users can get the framework 2.0 loaded.

I've researched windows app using clickonce. I'm having trouble finding out
what the security guidlines are for downloading a dataset and persisting it
while disconnected. Am I barking down the wrong path? Should I go all HTML
and just make them save pages down to their local box (not very elegant)?
