  • 1. Setup for Development environment?
I need some advice on how I should setup my development environment. I am developing in ASP.Net with VB.net (.NET 2.0). I am working with multiple sites. Some sites that use SSL are on two separate servers (in production). I work alone and do not have a team of developers. In the old days of classic ASP I had a development server that I could host all my sites on. To develop in ASP.net on that same server I need to install FrontPage server extensions. That has been a real mess. I gave up on that. I was using VSS 2005 and the server extensions would mess up my source database for some reason. I also had trouble with the FP-SE not allowing me to log in. I don mind developing everything on one XP development machine, but wanted to get peoples opinions on how I would set it up. What is the most effective way for me to work on multiple sites on an XP machine? Has anyone tried developing sites on a server without server extensions? I am using windows XP and 2003 if you hadn already guessed. Since some of my sites, in production, have separate server for SSL, would I need 2 separate projects? I guess I would. Thanks to all who respond. Daniel
  • 2. Robin S: post them all at once
Depends on the newsreader you are using. Usually when you post, there is a box that says "Newsgroups". In that box, you can type in every newsgroup you want to post, usually comma-delimited. What are you using to post your messages? Printer keeps going offline

Postby Sm9oblZC » Fri, 09 May 2008 02:22:01 GMT

I have 2 networked computers, one XP and one Vista, sharing a printer through
a wireless router. The printer is always online with the XP, but regularly
drops offline with the Vista. I've found no way to get the printer back
online execpt to reinstall it. How can I prevent this, or at least to get the
printer back online without reinstalling?

You need to post to NG(s)/forums that have XP or Vista in the name.

1.Printer Keeps Going Offline

I have an HP OfficeJet 7210 All-In-One Printer connected to my router
It has always worked fine.

I recently replaced my old XP laptop with a new laptop running Vista
Home 32 bit and since that time, I have an issue with the printer
constantly going "offline" at seeming random times.

When this occurs, if I attempt to print anything, it shows as "pending"
in the print que but does not print until the laptop is rebooted.

I thought it may have something to do with the laptop going into sleep
mode (as I saw others post about that problem), however, that is not the
case with mine ---this morning, I printed a document, then a few minutes
later, attempted to print another one and the printer was now "offline".

Any ideas?

2.A working printer keeps going offline

We have a networked Brother printer that can be accessed and printed
to by anyone and everything except via the terminal server. It says
offline and when we try to bring it online it says Operation could not
be completed.

All other printers are just fine, and the web interface to the printer
says everything is goow. Help!

Please. It's the owners printer.

3.Printers keep going offline for no reason

All 4 of the printers in our offline on the network keep going offline.
Sometimes if we delete all items in the queue and recycle the power they
come back online. It is a completely random occurrence, I have checked the
network cables, I can ping the printers, but sometimes they bring themselves
back online, other times they don't! They are all different brands or
models but it happens to any of them. Three are over five years old and
never had this problem until recently.

What else can I check?

4.Printers keep going offline

We have three printers on our network that are shared by everyone. They are
different brands and different ages.
Randomly any one of them will stop printing and if you look at the
properties it will say that printer is offline. Sometimes removing
everything from the print queue and restarting it works. Sometimes you have
to power if off completely. Sometimes nothing works. The print spooler on
the server and PC never seems to be stopped, and stopping and starting it
doesn't change anything.
But, a few hours, or days later, all of a sudden it is online again as
though nothing happened. This happens at least once a week, to a random
printer.

What would cause this?

5.Printer Driver keeps going offline

My printer's driver seems be set at " offline " at times.

I turn the computer off when not in use, & I don't think the setting
goes to "offline" while the computer is on, only if I turn the
computer off.

& I cannot say if it always happens when the computer is turned off
either.

It should always say " ready " right?

It's not a real big deal, as I can always access the control panel &
set it to " ready ", but it is a pain in the butt, especially of I am
on the Interent & want to print something.

I don't think it matters, but it is a Brother MFC 5100C USB driver.
(Could it be the driver's fault somehow?)
