  • 3. How do I get Crystal Reports to work in the Server?
Hello. I developed an application which works in an Intranet. I use Crystal Reports. I have not been able to see the reports. Please note that I already downloaded and installed in my bin folder the deployment install package from the Crystal Reports site. I get an error of a File not found. Believe me... I have given it some hours so please do not give me "standard" answers. I need to know which are the ... components that need to be installed in the server so Crystal Reports shows the reports. Does anyone know the whole list of components I need to install????? I use Visual Studio 2005. My app is made in VB and I try tu use the version of Crystal Reports that comes with VS. Thanks.

Fastest way to move XML document into and back out of CLR function In SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005, what is the fastest way to pass an xml data type variable into a C# CLR function and retrieve it back out of the C# CLR function when the C# CLR function is done modifying it? I tried this but get deployment error becuase SQLServer2005/CLR dotn support System.Xml.XmlDocument: public partial class UserDefinedFunctions { [Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction] public static int InsertSomeNode(System.Xml.XmlDocument pDoc) { // return 1; } }; thorws error: Error 1 Column, parameter, or variable #1: Cannot find data type XmlDocument. • 5. TreeView multiple selections
Hi, Is there a way for TreeView to have multiple selections? But I am not talking about its checked boxes. I want a way similar to ListView with MultiSelect = True. So I can use [Ctrl] or [Shift] key and click to make multiple selections. Then when I simply click one item, all previous selections are gone. Thanks in advance. Li

Building a client-server application with .net 2.0 and above

What are the data access choices that I have in building a client-server
application with .net 2.0? If the application does not need to support
running from browser, do I still need to understand xml web services or .net

It depends on where you have to get the data. If you are reading it from a
database, then no, you don't have to understand xml web services or .Net

1.ASP.NET vs Windows Forms for building client application

I kind of understand the ASP.NET architecture in terms of building web pages
with embedded server controls, where the .aspx is run on the client and the
.aspx.cs runs on the server.

But what if I want to build an ASP.NET based application that is to be run
entirely on a client (all files hosted on the client and run on the same
client)? What would that client need to run it?

I want to write an application that can be run standalone on a PC (not
hosted on a web server and accessed from a PC), which uses web technology
like javascript and Ajax, while also being able to code the primary logic in
C#. I have the choice of a windows forms rich client application which uses
a WebBrowser control, or a native ASP.NET application. But I'm not sure the
latter is even feasible for being deployed and run standalone on a PC -
would it need IIS and .NET framework installed, and even more?

2.CF 2.0 SP1 installation above CF 2.0

Hi again group,

It's been a while since I last posted in the group.

My applications are running CF 2.0, but I've noticed that there's been
an uograde to CF 2.0 SP1.
And I've also read posts of people running into problems when
installing CF 2.0 SP1, CF 2.0 SP1 Patch and so on.

Therefore, I suppose CF2.0 SP1 installation:

1) "repairs" CF 2.0 from my PC so that errors detected are fixed.
Therefore this is development related, Visual Studio related in other

2) installs CF 2.0 SP1 in the device through ActiveSync so that
application developed using CF 2.0 libraries can run in the device.

My question is: What redistributable should I then download and
install? Tried CF 2.0 SP1 but throwed me an error, therefore I reach
the patch download and the finally the group.

In fact, I first wanted to be sure of what I should install. I don't
have time to reinstall all my development environment in case anything
goes wrong. And incerely, does it deserve installing this SP1 upgrade?

Thanks very much in advance.

3.ASP.NET 2.0 building get '\server:port\' is not a valid virtual path

When I was creating an ASP.NET 2.0 web site on a site on a remote
server not on port 80 I was getting the error '\server:port\' is not a
valid virtual path.

This does not happen on my local server (which uses port numbers other
than 80).

I fixed it by adding a DNS entry and defining the website with this
host header name and having the site on port 80.

Does anyone why this happens? Is there another way to fix it so I can
build websites on ports other than 80?

4.ASP.NET 2.0 - How to build a Monitoring Application

Hello to everybody,

I would like to know how to build an ASP.NET 2.0 Application that show me
some data from a SQL Server Table and refresh it every one or two seconds ?
With autorefresh ? May be it is not so elegant...
I heard somthing about "Client Callback Manager", could this be good for
that ? If yes, how ?
Has the DataGrid got the autorefresh feature also, after the "Client
Callback Manager" for the sorting columns?
Can some good guy help me ?
Examples are welcomed :-)

God bless you.
