  • 1. Event 222 Puzzle
    Hello All, Has anyone come across the following scenario before? My nightly backups run successfully each evening, with my Unix based software emailing me to tell me everything has been backed up, without any problems. Log files are successfully flushed also. My event logs however report an information entry '222' 'Information Store (3432) SERVERNAME (STORAGE GROUP NAME): Ending the backup of the file V:\filename.stm. Not all data in the file has been read (read 0 bytes out of 228597760 bytes). ' This is also the case for my private databases. Can anyone offer an explanation? Many Thanks, Orb.

  • 3. Configuring Outlook for Calendaring only
    Hello, I have a situation where I use outlook for multiple POP3 addresses, and I need to access a calendar on an exchange server and contacts, but not the emails. I don't want outlook to download and delete the emails in the exchange account. Is this possible without setting up a new profile in outlook? Any help would be appreciated.
  • 4. Prevent users from local login but not OWA
    Dears, How can I prevent some users from login on the local network in the same time were they can use OWA. I tried to restrict there login to undefined machine ( from AD ) but the OWA didn't work. So is there any way to do such thing? Can I creat a mailbox without using AD? Or create multiple mailboxes for a single user.
  • 5. Preventing Reverse NDR in Exchange 2000
    In a perfect world, I would upgrade to Exchange 2003...but I currently do not have the funds to do so... I have become the latest victim in what appears to be a successful Reverse NDR attack. I started to receive multiple NDR reports throughout the day which seem to have come addressed from XXXX@XXXXX.COM ...The email was sent To & From XXXX@XXXXX.COM of course fills my badmail folder etc...etc. In my virtual SMTP server queue, i noticed a 'remote deliver' entry going to hanmail.net... For the time being, I have cleared my virtual SMTP queue and explicitly set NOT to generate NDR reports through my Global Settings...This is meant to only be a temporary fix. MY QUESTION: Since I cannot set a recipient filter policy in Exchange 2000, and Exchange 2000 accepts ALL mail before queueing Active Directory...is there any way to defeat these Reverse NDR attacks? I have Googled until my eyes bled and can only come up with solutions for Exchange 2003... MY ENVIRONMENT: Windows 2000 Server Exchange 2000 Server Enterprise Edition (Latest Service Packs and hotfixes applied) My gratitude ahead of time...

Blank from field from just one company

Postby Dwayne » Fri, 16 Jul 2004 00:07:51 GMT

I was wondering if anyone has come across this. I recently migrated over
from our 5.5 server to 2003. All emails from one company now has a blank
from field. When you click on reply their email address appears in the To:
field. It is very strange and I can't find any references to this on my
searches. Any ideas?

Dwayne

I alsot am having the same problem. Two of my users can send mail and for a
few addresses the to field becomes blank once the message moves to their Sent
Items folder. However the receiver does get the message properly

1.two different companies, one with pop and one with exchange

I work for two clients, I currently use outlook 2007 on an exchange basis for
one and mozilla on the other (whihc has 3x pop accounts)

I want to use this all via outlook 2007 can I do this....but I need them to
be visible to me all together, rather than having to login to one profile and
logout then login to view the other

But I must ensure that each client cannot see the others emails

I would like to use my tasks and contacts/address book for my own company
and again not have this visible to the other clients is this possible

2.**** Fields->Update() is stuck after deleting one Field in .eml file ****

Hi!

Please help with the following situation:

the function gets an URL to some .eml-file,
than it deletes one property from the .eml-file
now it is necessary to commit this deletion, but

          pRecord->Fields->Update();

function, where pRecord is

     _RecordPtr pRecord(__uuidof(Record));

stiks. It means that i do not have some error or program termination,
process just sleeps - no more activity.

This function is called on "onSinkDelete" event. And when the user
deletes an appointment - the Outlook-client that initiates this event
is locked.
I have to kill the process in the TaskManager. And I see that the MAPI
session is not closed.

May be someone has an idea about this problem.

You can see a part of the source-code below

...
	_ConnectionPtr m_pConnection(__uuidof(Connection));
	_RecordPtr pRecord(__uuidof(Record));

	HRESULT hr = S_FALSE;

	_CalendarPaths* calendarPaths = new _CalendarPaths();

	try
	{
		GetUserCalendar( "some eMail",calendarPaths);
		CComBSTR bstrCalendarURL = (BSTR)calendarPaths->CalendarURL;
		m_pConnection->Provider = "ExOLEDB.DataSource";
		m_pConnection->Open(calendarPaths->CalendarURL, bstr_t(),
                                    bstr_t(),-1);

		delete calendarPaths;

		bstrCalendarURL.Append("/regReplicationProps.eml");

		hr = pRecord->Open((_variant_t)bstrCalendarURL,
				variant_t((IDispatch*)m_pConnection, true),
				adModeReadWrite,
				adFailIfNotExists,
				adOpenSource,
				bstr_t(),
		           	bstr_t());

		bool FieldExists = (adRecOK == pRecord->Fields->
                             GetItem((bstr_t)  UBMID)->GetStatus());

		if (FieldExists)
		{
/*ID parameter is ok*/	hr+=pRecord->GetFields()->Delete((bstr_t)ID);
/* problematic string*/	hr+=pRecord->Fields->Update();
		}
	}
	catch(_com_error error)
	{
		return false;
	}

3.Blank To and From Fields

We are on Exchange 2003 and my folks are receiving e-mail messages where both
TO and FROM fields are blank.
Is there a way to block messages when both TO and FROM are Blank?

This is what the header looks like....
X-Comment: Sending client does not conform to RFC822 minimum requirements
X-Comment: Date has been added by Maillennium
Received: from X.X.X.X (unknown[X.X.X.X](misconfigured sender))

Thanks!

4.Adding company name to the "From" field

Hopefully this is an easy problem. We are running Exchange 2003 on Windows
Server 2003 in a mixed domain. (Win2k and Win2003 servers)
Lets say I am working for a company named "XYZ". The owner of the company
wants the "from" line in the email client to say "Bill Smith, XYZ Company".

Unfortunately I can not find a way to do this. Any help is appreciated.

Bob

5.NDR's generated with blank From: field

Exchange Server 5.5 IMS

When a message is sent to a non-existant user the Non-
Delivery report that is generated has a blank "FROM:<>"
entry.

This causes NDR's to break when the return server denies
blank From addresses (which is common practice to combat
spam).

Is there a method to force Exchange to use a particular
address as the "From:" address?

6. field in "Sent Items" blank

7. Some fields are blank on my Exchange 2007 tracking log

8. Update company field in all users contacts
