  • 1. Migrating Exchange
We currently have an Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server. We are planning on replacing this with a new server running Exchange 2003 Standard Server (since Enterprise is more than we require). Therefore I am writing to check that you can migrate Exchange 2000 Enterprise mailboxes to an Exchange 2003 Standard Server? I know that you cannot do an in-place upgrade from Exchange 2000 Enterprise to Exchange 2003 Standard, but is a migration possible? Thanks.

Hello. I am going to implement E2K3 on 2 Windows Servers. One is a DC in the forest root called : root.com and the second will also be a DC in a child domain called child.root.com. The domain child.root.com is in a branch office in a different geo location. The servers will be working in the same administrative group but in different routing groups and will be accepting mail for root.com only (there will not be a child.root.com mail domain). I want to know if this setup will cause problems and if there are any workarounds for potential problematic situations. Thank you.
  • 4. Introducing Exchange 2003 in an existing Exchange 2000 environment
I had a Windows 2000 AD that I upgraded to Windows 2003 AD and upgraded the primary server to Windows Server 2003. I still have an Exchange 2000 server that is part of the domain and is working fine. I want to be able to install an Exchange 2003 server and move all the mail boxes over to it and then remove Exchange 2000. My question would be, can I just install Exchange 2003 on a Windows Server 2003, if so do I still need to run Adprep /forestprep /domainprep? How should I introduce the new Exchange 2003 server into my environment while still running Exchange 2000? What steps do I need to take to have both Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 on the same domain Thanks in advance Mike W

1.Exchange 2007 Installation; Client Access Role

I am trying to Install Exchange 2k7 on Windows Server 2008. I've gone through
the whole nine yards of preinstallation checks b/c its going to coexists in
an Exchange 2000 Environment. I have both windows 2000 and 2k3 DCs.
The Readiness checks out allright. Everything goes OK for the typical
Exchange installation but the installation fails for Client Access Role. I
get the following error:

Client Access Role
Error: An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory
'IIS://exchangeserver.domain.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync'
on 'exchangeserver' . Requested Resgistry access is not allowed.

I think its a permissions issue but am not sure exactly which registry I
need to give permissions to. Help anyone...

2.E2K7 Client Access Role Installation Error

We installed E2K7 and ran with 2003 also. Migrated our mailboxes over and
eveything is fine. Had to manualy remove the 2003 instance due to hardware
problems.

Now when i come to setup another E2K7 client access role only server i get
the follow error:

I have read the other posts which people have written about this but i can
find no reference to these keys in ldp at all. Can any one please tell me how
to fix this??

Thanks in advance

3.Exchange 2007 Client Access Role faild during installation

We already have 3 x Exchange 2007 servers (each with MB, HT, CA roles and
MT) running and we trying to install a fourth one, however we get an error
message during the setup process for the Client Access Role. The error
message is "Read Ony MultiValuedProperty does not support this operation".

We went on to install all the other roles except the CA and when we run the
Exchange Management Console and we go under Server Configuration->Mailbox
and select the fourth server we get a warning message stating that "Get
OWAVirtualDirectory: The virtual directory "Exchweb (Default WEb Site)" is
not configured correctly. This server has the Mailbox role installed, so
HTTP compression must be disabled. You can use the IIS Manager to disable
compression."

Whe we go to IIS MAnager and check under Services for Web Sites,
compression is not selected/enabled.

Please assist and thanks in advance.

4.Ex2k7 Client Access Role Installation - Registry Error

I guess it has something to do with registry access when he wants to create
the Virutal Directories for OWA, and he needs access for that.

The old w2k domain had some freaky group policy on it, which I disabled
already, but no luck at all.

Who can give me the hint what registry key I need to change (rights) to get
the installation finished?

Regards, Dirk
