  • 1. Dumb question on internet email domains
I am setting up an Exchange Server (actually SBS2003). In the past I have always used the same domain name internally as the external domain. But this time, I went ahead and setup the server with a domain of xxxxx.local. But I need our email address to be XXXX@XXXXX.COM . Of course, when I generate a new user he gets a default email addresss of XXXX@XXXXX.COM instead of XXXX@XXXXX.COM . Where, and how, do I setup Exchange to use the xxxxx.com address. And listen for (route) incoming email. Our ISP has configured the MX record and I can telnet in and test both the POP3 and SMTP ports. Just this domain issue has me stumped. It,s probably right under my nose. I have been running an Exchange server 2000 for several years and I thought I had this stuff down. Dying gray cells? TIA Marcus
  • 2. Migration Exchange 5.5
I m migrating from Exchange 5.5 to two Exchnage 2003 servers : I ve a few questions : 1) I ve some mailboxes where a group has been given permissions on. I cannot replicate this with ADC, the group sid will be replace by a desactivated user. How can i do? to ensure minimum impact on my users. 2) Somedbody has a script to recreate address lists from adress book views. 3) I was using Header.exe , is there an equivalent tools in AD. (not csvde, i mean something graphical, and not active directory users and computers ) 4) can I use pfmigrate, to say this path and its subfolders --> replicate to puf store on server1(exchange 2003) , the rest replicate to puf store on server2 ( second Exchange 2003) Thank you ! Emmanuel
  • 3. OWA setup on SBS 2003
Hi, I can't access OWA on an SBS 2003 server, for any user. Not sure what is stopping it - is it ISA settings? I've checked in Active Directory Users and Domains under the user and they are permitted to use OWA. Also tried to connect using Sever Activesync and a smart phone, but that failed too. Hope you can help. Neil
  • 4. Silly license questions
Greetings, Dumb questions here, but first, are basic Server 2003 CALs required in conjunction with Exchange 2003 CALs for each connection? Obviously I need the base Exchange Server license and either device/user Exchange CALs, but where do those pesky Windows Server CALs come in, or do they? Next, if I have a couple Windows Terminal servers, and each server has 50 people on it, if I read Microsoft's Exchange Device CAL literally, than all I need is one device CAL for each Terminal Server. That can't be right...... Basically were looking at rippout out our Domino/Notes environment and moving to Exchange, which I haven't worked on in a few years. Terminal Server and the basic Server CAL issues kind of threw me.

1. Yes. you need to install ADC and configure CAs before the exchange 2003
installation
2. Yes. you can install ADC on a domain controller

Also, take a look at my following article:

Here are some good MS KB articles:

1.ADC Tools errors after installing ADC

We have a Windows 2003 AD structure with an empty root
domain, and several child domains under that root.
We have installed Exchnage 2003 ADC in one of the child
domains, and have (apparently) successful connectors to
each of our 8 Exchange 5.5 servers (1 in local child 2K3
domain, 7 in other trusted NT4 domains).
A couple of weeks have passed, and all the Exchange 5.5
servers appear to have replicated with the new server
which will run Exchange 2003 Enterprise.
However, the ADC Tools still say that there are
unreplicated objects, but give no clue as to which ones.
The messages from ADCTools.log are:

Current user is 'Exchange Service\PAPPASTV' on
computer 'VIS2K3XCH0001'

ADC object replication verify 06/01/2004 15:56:48

you have just run Connection Agreement Wizard, allow time

When we run Exchange Setup, we get a warning
message "strongly recommending" that we fix the problems.
How can I figure out what objects are not replicating?
Or do I need to worry about this message at all?

2.2003 install - adc errors

HI,
I don't have any nt4 dc's and in fact we are running 2003. I have a 2000
exchange cluster currently with one server being shutdown for over 9 months.
I am now trying to move to a 2003 standalone server and I am ready to go but
when I started the exchange install it won't go because it tells me the ADC
connectors are not updated.
I don't have 5.5 or nt4 and I am sure this is just left over from some messy
people before me.
I have searched everywhere and in LDP I see some references to an old dc but
I am not comfortable on how to remove the entries to just that.
I also don't know why adc is runnign because it isn't installed on the
exchange servers?

3.Error installing ADC connector...

All,

I'm attempting to install the ADC connector on a W2K3 member server
(XCHNG2K3_SERVER) in DOMAINB. After I select my Site credentials (to attach
to XCHNG 5.5 servers) and then enter in my Domain credentials and press
next...the summary page then shows the following error information:

-----------------------
ADC Tools encountered errors updating some connection agreements. Please
check that your logged on account has full permissions on the ADC connection
agreement container.
Error: Connection Agreement Wizard could not contact the ADC server
XCHNG2K3_SERVER to set the connection agreements credentials for
DOMAINB\User. Please ensure that Active Directory Connector is running and
can be contacted from this computer. Then rerun the Connection Agreement
Wizard. iADCI.SetPassword returned 0x800706BE Method '~' of object '~'
failed

More Info:

XCHNG2K3_SERVER ...This has been changed by me in above error
description...actually has our XCHNG server name

DOMAINB\User...This has been changed by me in above error description...this
account is a domain account who is in the Domain Admins of DOMAINB

Also in the event log on the XCHANG2K3_SERVER is the following error:

--------------------------

Event ID: 8187

Source: MSADC

Category: Replication

The following error has occurred when trying to read a password from the LSA
Private Store. Error number: 0xc0000022. Description: ''.

----------------------------

It seems to be some sort of permission issue of some sorts??? Is it trying
to get to local LSA or domain LSA database???

Any thoughts on why this is occurring? I can't get any further of course
until I can get the ADC installed.

Thanks in advance.

4.Permission Issue while installing ADC for Exchange 2003

All,

AD Migration in progress

------------------
DomainA: AD Empty Forest Root (W2K3)
DomainB (Migrating to): Child domain (W2K3), User domain (XPProSP2), New
XCHNG 2K3 SP1 domain
DomainC (Migrating from): NT 4 SP6, old User domain, existing XCHNG 5.5 SP4
-------------------

Already ran DCDIAG, NETDIAG, Forest Prep, Domain Prep, OrgPrepCheck...all
successful...

I'm attempting to install the ADC connector for XCHNG 2003 in DomainB as an
account that is a member of ENTERPRISE ADMINISTRATOR (i.e. DomainA
account)...however, I get the following error:

-------
You must be a member of the Administrators group to run Microsoft Active
Directory Connector Setup.
ID no: c10361bf
Microsoft Active Directory Connector Setup
-------

How do I get DomainA 'Enterprise Admins' into DomainB 'Domain Admins'?
It's in DomainB Administrators group...what am I missing?

I looked at Article ID: 253286

More info will be provided as necessary...

Thanks in advance.

5.Where to install ADC?

Does it matter where you install the ADC?
Could it be installed onto DC or should it be installed onto the Exchange
2003 Server?
What is the recommended approach?

Thanks,
Luc
