  • 1. copy and pasting word objects in containers
Hi all I am trying to script a process that will loop through a set of records and copy the word table embedded in a container and then paste it in a word file. I have this working with vb in word, and a script the copies the contents of the container and then moves on to the next record, runs the vb to paste in word which in turns runs the fm script again until it gets to the last record but the problem is it pastes the contents as a word object in the word file instead of just copying the text and table and pasting them straight into word file. does any one know of a way to resolve this Thanks C
  • 2. Within a Script: Change Perform Find to Constrain Found Set
I have to re-work several existing scripts in a medium sized database. My issue is that I would need to change numerous Perform Find script steps to Constrain Found Set script steps. Example of what is there: Set Error Capture [On] Show All Records Perform Find What I would like to have: Set Error Capture [On] Set Field [Table1::Date ; Table2::StartDate & "..." & Table2::EndDate Constrain Found Set This way, users can enter the start & stop dates of the report. Problem, FMPA won't let me copy the Action/Criteria from within the Perform Find. Do I really have to re-enter all of the actions into the Constrain by hand? Man, you'd think there would be a way to change/copy the Perform Find into a Constrain Found Set. Am I missing something simple? Please someone tell me there is a quick easy way to do this. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Reality is the leading cause of stress... ...amongst those in touch with it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- WinXP Pro 64Bit / FMP Adv 8.5v1 VoicesInMyHead a.k.a. Hi All, I am an amateur stitching together a solution from the FM Business Solution pack. I am trying to keep the inventory accurate. The solution pack pulls from inventory when an order is created, but it does not add back to inventory when an order is cancelled or quantity is reduced. I am looking for some guidance as to where I should start. Thank you! Tim
  • 5. Unable to edit file
Have you seen this behaviour before? If I share out the file from the FileMaker 8.0 server, I can not create new records or delete any records. It reports to me that the file is locked. When I copy the file to my computer and open it locally, I can create and delete records. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with me. Regards Kevin Smith

Exporting becomes read only

Postby Andrea Crotti » Wed, 10 Feb 2010 17:38:48 GMT

My father has a problem with filemaker, with version 10 is not able to
clone a database in short.

He clones but it's read only, and no way to write in it.
The file cloned was open and with network enabled, could that maybe the
problem?

OS permissions are set fine...

A FileMaker server-hosted file cannot be saved except by a scheduled backup, which will not be a clone.
Is this a single user file?
Is the clone being created using the File > Save a copy as menu?
Clones made this way have no data, but should nonetheless be read and write.
But for this the file must be on a writeable volume - so a CD, for example, won't work...

Please tell us more about the environment and process. Maybe then we can help more.

OK, the attached includes the above -- result looks like:

regression=# select * from pg_settings where category like 'Compile%';

Done. Also added "category" which displays config_group_names[conf->group]

Done.

I'll update the docs once I'm sure we're done iterating on these changes.

Any further comments?

You can determine these values by looking into the system catalogs.

And this as well.

Why would anyone be interested in that?

Here we should really decide on one representation in the near term.

First installment. The attached exports FUNC_MAX_ARGS as a read-only GUC
variable -- func_max_args. Comments?

While I was in guc.c, I also added short_desc to the definition of the
pg_settings view. I wasn't sure if I ought to add the long_desc too, and
if so, should it be it's own column in the view, or be concatenated with
short_desc -- any thoughts on that?

Current output looks like this:

regression=# \x
Expanded display is on.
regression=# select * from pg_settings where name = 'func_max_args';
-[ RECORD 1 ]-----------------------------------------------------------
name | func_max_args
setting | 32
short_desc | Shows the compiled-in maximum number of function arguments.
context | internal
vartype | integer
source | default
min_val | 32
max_val | 32

This will require a catalog version bump when I apply it (not done in
the attached patch).

4.Isolation levels READ UNCOMMITTED and REPEATABLE READ

I think we could allow users to set the transaction isolation level to
READ UNCOMMITTED or REPEATABLE READ and internally behave like READ
COMMITTED or SERIALIZABLE, respectively. The SQL standard seems to allow
this:

[speaking about SET TRANSACTION]

         5) The isolation level of TXN is set to an implementation-defined
isolation level that will not exhibit any of the phenomena that
the explicit or implicit <level of isolation> would not exhibit,
as specified in Table 10, "SQL-transaction isolation levels and
            the three phenomena".

This says that the SQL implementation can always isolate more than the
user requested, just not less.

If we did this, it would make the SQL interface more complete at little
cost.

5.Why would Hosts suddenly become unavailable?

I have also seen this sort of behaviour, but not frequently. At the most I have seen
connections drop after 2 weeks.

I'm running OS9 5 server and 5.5 clients on PC and Mac. What I can say is Appletalk
can drop and TCP not, TCP can drop and Appletalk not. But this is not common. I do
remember (back when having problems) that some normal Mac Extentions should be
disabled, I did and it cleared thing up - this was back when running server 3.0 on
OS9 on the same computer before upgrading to v5 - maybe it is still relivant, but I
don't remember what they were.

Your network: Make sure ALL swithes and routers etc are on UPS systems. A power
flicker can cause problems. I do know that NetGear switches (even on a good APC UPS)
will drop on a power bump - I don't know why. I actually added a battery in the DC
supply to filter out the power bumps on these switches - this cured them from
dropping connections.

I don't read this group frequently, so email me if you have comments
