  • 1. Sharing filemaker files?
Is it possible to share filemaker files with the trial version of filemaker? I get an error when I attempt to do this. I've tried to do something similar with the FileMaker Advanced, but for some reason I cannot see the database files (only the server names) when I try to connect from a different computer. Thanks.
  • 2. Converting FM3 files w/o the program
Hello, I need to open a set of old filemaker 3 files. The files I've found so far are Windows, but I'll likely find Mac ones as well. Anyway, I tried using FM8.5 but it told me that I had to open them in FileMaker 4. I don't have any of the older versions of FileMaker and thus am wondering either: a) If there is a utility or program out there that can convert FM3 files to some modern readable format (whether Filemaker, Access, etc.)? b) Or, how I can find old versions Windows/Mac of FileMaker 4? Thanks in Advance, EF
  • 3. Attaching PDF to email using relative path
Using FM 8.5 on Mac OS 10.3.9 I am having trouble attaching a file to an email using a relative path. I'm creating a pdf of a record (using Save Records As PDF script step), and saving it with a relative path (file:Property.pdf). I am then using the Send Mail script step to create an email with this file as an attachment, again using the same relative path (file:Property.pdf). This creates the email but with no attachment. If I change the Send Mail step to use an absolute path to the file, it works. Any thoughts? Thanks, Anthony

are there irrregularities with popups in IWP ? I have noted that a field offering a popup list based on its own contents or 'from field' seems to work a more apparently straightforward popup based on a 'custom values' doesn't, at least in my setup rather a puzzle i'm using Safari has anyone else had this problem and are there solutions marmot

I tried this script for current to 30 days or 60 days ahead either, but it is not working. Can you check this correct or wrong script? Set Field [ExpiredDate;GetAsText(Get(CurrentDate)) & "..." & GetAsText(Get(CurrentDate)+30)] Daniel R. Sloan

FM on Intel Mac

Postby Dave » Wed, 07 Jun 2006 22:18:54 GMT

Does it run? if so, which versions?

I have FM 6 Pro at the moment (since I'm on 10.2.8, which won't run
anything later). Should I update to FM 8 to use an Intel Mac?

Any information or advice welcome.

I'm running versions 5.5 and 6 just fine on Intel Macs. They are
running under Rosetta, but they are plenty peppy. I'm sure 7 and 8 are
fine too. I haven't even looked yet to see if the current FM versions
are intel native, because I'm not running them anyway.

FileMaker 8 is not a universal binary yet.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

FileMaker 5.5 is now running on three Intel iMacs at one of the places
that I do work for with no problems reported by the users. It includes
accessing both single-user databases and network multi-user databases,
and a combination of Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS 9.2.

I haven't really used them enough myself yet to know whether there's
any noticeable speed differnce between the Intel iMac and the G4/G5
iMac, but I haven't noticed any difference so far.

I can't answer your Macintel question, but since you're considering
upgrading from 6 to 8: There's a special offer until June 30th: you get
FMP _Advanced_ 8 for an upgrade price if you have a Filemaker Pro 6

1.Filemaker 9, scripting and Intel-based Macs

I've found some strange differences using FileMaker 9 (demo) with Mac
PPC- and Intel Duo-processors:

1. Scripting a new window with Go to Related Record works well with PPC
but nothing shows up with Intel.

2. Show Custom Dialog: If the text contains a slash - "/" - you get a
blank dialog with Intel - with PPC it's like it supposed to be.

Mac OS X 10.4.10 on both systems - and I've tried this with several
files and machines.

If anybody have the same experience (and a solution) I'ld like to hear.

2.Mac moves to Intel!

Well - as an ex-mac user who runs linux on his PowerBook, I think this
good news. I bought the PB because I thought I would be able to run
things like InDesign and Freehand, and a lot of the Open Source stuff I
use most often, n a gui some one had given *some* thought to.
But the dream failed. Too much weirdness while trying to get what I
needed to run to run.
Thats along time ago - projects like Fink have probably come a long way
since then. But then so has KDE.
If the same source code for Linux apps can be compiled without all the
tweaking needed to make them compile on X - well I may get another mac.
I am writing this on a Win XP box I need for a couple of apps - man it
is a pain.
And I have two HP devices that do not work on mac but do on Linux PPC.
HP and Mac not compatable - now that is weird.
