I wouldn't use Proper() calcs for last names. There's no way for a calculation to know how an person prefers to spell their last name. Train and trust your data entry person and make sure there's a way to correct errors. G
  • 4. Defining a Value List
I have FMP 8.5 Advanced. I know you can add items to the list in File>Define>Value Lists or you can have it set up so 'Edit' appears at the end of the list when you tab to that particular field. Is is possible to have it so you can click on a button and add items to the list that way? Carl
  • 5. client looking for FM course, Boston area
Does anyone have recommendations for filemaker instruction in the Boston area? One of my clients has a primary user who's interested in being able to better understand my solution and perhaps get comfortable enough to make her own layouts and such (I'm fine with the idea). She's computer literate (Windows) on a basic level, and has good comprehension when things are explained well. I know there are a lot of choices out there, and some are even worthwhile. The client is a non-profit k-12 school with very little money. thanks, Lanse Stover

Whats THE BOOK for switching from 6 to 7 ways of building?

Hello,

I have a developer that is extremely experienced in relational design and
has worked very large multi-user
corporate solutions in 6. I need to get him up to speed as fast as possible
with the mechanics and approaches
of working with 7. What books or online training materials have you found
most helpful?
I reviewed the Business Tracker solution with him but due to its complexity
I don't think much of it sunk in.

Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

warmest regards,

Pierre Lessard.

4.Whats Informix thinking or Idea

Hi;

What are the reasons for hiding indexes created from the "primary
key(...)" fragment of table creation?

I now have a very long established Informix system updated by recent
application upgrades that are no longer "reverse engineer able" via
`dbschema`

These Indexes seem to have a name starting with the space character !

Boy - I am getting too ole for this !!

5.Not sure whats happening to update statistics

I upgraded a server from 7.31.FD7 to 9.40.FC5, started the application,
which connected ok, basic tasks worked except for anything involving a
stored procedure. I thought lets run update statistics for procedure and see
if that clears the problem (whatever it is) but dostats is taking 66-72
seconds for each SP. Does anyone know what is going on?
