  • 1. Change apperence of button so all instances on page change as well?
I want to design my own button in Fireworks so I can easily modify its appearance, and all instances of it on the page will update, while maintaining the changes I made to their text. At the moment ive made my button by designing it and going Modify/ Symbol/ convert to Symbol. I can then change the text in the properties panel but how do I change the appearance for all the button instances? thanks

Hi guys , just a question regarding the margins of the canvas in Fireworks. When I set up my monitor resolution to 1280 x 800 and save the file ( jpeg / png ) I get white borders on the left hand side and top of the browsers despite the fact the resolution is proper.Any ideas how I can get rid of them ? ( The same thing in Mozilla ). Cheers.

working with bitmaps

Can one "do" anything with imported "bitmap" images/photos besides
stretching them. ie Is it possible to create a gradient ranging from
transperent to another color or have another image or slice sit over it.
Have tried looking in Fireworks MX 2004 for an answer but may have looked
in the wrong place. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Doug

You can do MANY things with bitmap images in FW. The two techniques you
ask about are not only possible but quite easy to do.

Fade image:

Set your canvas color to the color you want for the fade
Select your image
Go to COMMANDS > CREATIVE > FADE IMAGE
Pick a fade and click OK

True vector or bitmap masks give you even more possibilities. You're
only limited by your imagination.

Image collage (basic):

Open one image file
Import or cut/paste and other image into this file
Scale, rotate, fade etc to your heart's content
Increase canvas size so you have more bleed around the original image
and position your import file(s) wherever you want.

And have some fun.

Jim,
Thank you very much. It is so easy to do things (almost anything with an
image created in fireworks (.png) but importing photos that I have taken
specifically for 'web use' and being able to work with them in the same
manner has been .... "frustrating at best". Without the use of the
properties panel and all that it offers there seemed to be a wall that was
always in front of me.
For your suggestions,
Again Thanks
Doug

i Doug:

You're very welcome, but I am not sure what you mean by "without the use
of the Properties Panel." The Properties Inspector in FW MX or MX 2004
gives you most - if not all - the control that the old Properties Panel
in FW 4 offered.

As an FYI I use FW exclusively for images destined for web and screen
use. It's primary function is as a screen (not print) graphics app. Any
image you open or import into FW can be saved as a PNG for
editing/creative purposes, and then later exported as the desired web
format (jpeg or gif or png).

HTH
