Hello, Here' s what I would like to do, but haven't figured it out yet completely. On a page in my flash website, I would like it to contain links to video files (mpeg4) and have them downloadable to the end user. They would just click on the link and it would open the download box so they can download the file to their hard drive. So, what is the best way to set this up in flash and is there any actionscript involved? If so, what is it? Thanks for any info to get me started on the right track with this.... Tegan

Firefox recognizes Quicktime as Flash Player instead of Flash as Flash Player

Postby xplayman » Sun, 15 Jul 2007 11:39:46 GMT

I don't know why when I go to websites and all those old Flash sites don't work
anymore, but I get the "Quicktime Question Mark" logo. I've tried reinstalling
Flash Player so many times but the quicktime logo keeps coming up. I've tried
this both with Firefox and Safari and it just doesn't work.

I updated Flash and Quicktime 7.2 om my PPC Dual 2.5K Mac. AS xplayman
remarked, When I go to Flash Sites re: YouTube, Funnyordie,
I get a Quicktime 'Q' with a question mark. I re-installed the new Flash and
it's ok for a while..then it goes back to the Quicktime question mark. It's a
problem in Safari, Firefox and Mozilla. Does anyone have and answer to our
problem? What and why does reinstalling Flash ONLY TEMPORARILY solve this
problem. How can one UNINSTAL either QT or FLASH to the previously working
version...or have any control to rid this conflict!:confused;

I don't think Flash ever really worked. I think you just may have been using
QuickTime without knowing it the whole time. Because QuickTime can load some
Flash 8 content and all Flash 7 content. My website Flash content works with
at least Flash 7 and QuickTime loads it just fine. However, when I go to other
websites like My Space, MLB, Yahoo, and other sites using Flash 8 and 9 most of
the 8 content do not work and all of the 9 content do not work.

Interesting answer for me and hope it works for you, xplayman. In the
following answer, Reminder: I have a G5 Dual 2k PPC Mac and was suprised that
QT manages Flash! I skipped #1. Because It was already installed. Went to
Apple Disscussions and received this answer:

I have experienced the same issues. Have you recently updated to QT 7.2? If
so, I think you will find it does not want to to play nice with Adobe Flash
(you will find posts all over this QT Support message board about it).
 Try this:
 1. Go the the Adobe Flash homepage and reinstall the latest Flash Player for
Mac.
 2. Start the QuickTime Player application. Go into QuickTime Player>QT
Preferences. Click on the "ADVANCED" tab.
 3. Make sure "ENABLE FLASH" is ON.
 4. At the bottom you will see "MIME SETTINGS...". Click on this button.
 5. Scroll down to "MISCELLANEOUS - MISCELLANEOUS FILE FORMATS".
 6. Turn OFF the "FLASH MEDIA" option and klick "OK".
 7. Restart your computer.
Hope this works for you. Good Luck!

Thanks a whole lot. This solved my problem!

2.Stand Alone Players Do Not Recognize Flash Player

Hello all, before I state my problem I should state that I recently wiped my
laptop, reinstalled OS (Windows vista home premium 32bit), had to reinstall the
drivers one by one from gateway.com model number of my notebook is MT3707.

Now my problem is, before my notebook needed to be fixed due to some other
issue, I had a stand alone flash player Swiff Player 1.5, which I used to play
my .SWF files. However, now it does not recognize the adobe flash player
plug-in installed on my notebook. At first I thought it could have been Swiff
Player, but any other stand alone flash players I have tried have given me the
same message "Flash Player is not installed on this system".

The flash plug-in works fine for Firefox if I am trying to few the .SWF
through a browser, so I would assume that the flash player plug-in is installed
correctly and working. In any case, I went to add and remove programs and saw
that flash player plug-in had a small red x in the corner of its icon I do not
know if this is significant in any way perhaps a indication as to why the stand
alone flash players are not recognizing the adobe flash player.

 So please help, thank you.

3.Controlling QuickTime Player from Flash Player?

Flash can import a QuickTime movie, but it won't play it if it's a General MIDI
file (music). Fine, so I'll link this QT movie to the web page to have
Quicktime Player play it in the background while Flash plays the visuals.

The question is, is it possible to control (turn on/off) QuickTime's playback
from inside Flash Player? The user should have the option to start and turn off
the music by all means. Do QuickTime Player and Flash Player have a means of
communicating and controlling each other?

4.Site Manager - Recognizing Flash MX 2004 instead of older Flash version

I often open source files through the Site Manager (Dreamweaver MX
2004)...by control clicking the file. With Flash .fla files, it often gives
me the option to open with the old version of Flash MX (which I have since
removed from my machine)...so instead I have to select 'browse' and go to
the Flash MX 2004 app...which is a few extra steps that I would like to
avoid every time.

Anyway to get Dreamweaver to 'forget' about the old version of Flash and
instantly recognize the correct, installed version?

5.Sync Center recognizes USB flash drive as media player

Sync Center in Beta 2 Build 5384 recognizes my SanDisk Cruzer 1GB (970+MB
free) USB flash memory drive as a portable media player. Consequently, it
brings up Windows Media Player and displays playlists when I attempt to set
up a new sync relationship. Believing Vista was confused because the drive
had been given a drive letter previously used by my RCA Lyra portable player,
I assigned the SanDisk a different drive letter. I didn't help. How can I get
Sync Center to recognize the drive as a plain old USB device so I can set up
the sync relationship I want? Or, as another poster suggested, is this
feature being cut and I don't need to worry about it?
