  • 1. Interpolating a vector field
Hello I wondered if anyone knew of any existing solutions or had any useful input to the following problem which concerns the interpolation of a normalised vector field in 2D. By normalised I mean that the vector field at any point is defined by a single angle - i.e. the field has the same absolute value at every point. In my case I am able to extract values of the vector field (i.e. directions) at a number of arbitrary points in a rectangular region. The problem I now face is how to use these values to generate a continuous field over the rectangle. The interpolation/extrapolation scheme should ideally preserve local features - perhaps I need a 1/r^2 weighting. In functional terms, I've considered trying to minimise either the curvature of the field or the path length but it isn't clear how to implement such a minimisation. The underlying problem is actually in image space but I think the nature of the problem is more suited to this group than sci.image.processing. Many Thanks Pete
  • 2. Rotation around the normal
Greetings, I'm looking for information on rotating an object by a face normal so that the normal becomes axis aligned (to the x axis). What's the most efficient algorithm to do this? Thanks -Anderson
  • 3. How "Edge Preserving Smooth" ??
Hello all, I am looking for some sort of "smart blur" and there is a feature in Paint Shop Pro 8.01 that does almost exactly what I need: "Edge Preserving Smooth". Would anyone know how this algoritm works? I tried sobel edge detection with gaussian blur (only blur where low edge intensity is detected) but that does not blur noise. The Edge Preserving Smooth from Paint Shop Pro blurs noise, but let real edges alone. Who can help?? Thank you
  • 4. Career
I am thinking about making a career in graphics and design, does anybody have any tips or hints that they can share with me ? Thanks
  • 5. Use of convolution in 3D ? Your opinion
Hello to all, Is there applications of the convolution in 3D games ? I just don't see the pratical (put in really simple words as I am newbie, please :-)) of using it. Thank you for the input M.

They accept every submitted paper. Papers are not vetted like well
respected conferences and journals. It has been spoofed by people
submitting random generated papers.

Definition from Wikipedia: "A vanity press or vanity publisher is a term,
nearly always derogatory, describing a publishing house that publishes
books at the author's expense...In contrast, mainstream publishers,
whether major companies or small presses, derive their profit from sales
of the book to persons other than the author."
