No printing online
by Pete » Sun, 15 May 2005 04:34:22 GMT
Pentium III 733, Windows98SE, IE 6, Printer: HP Deskjet 970 Cxi, Netgear
PCI Adapter FA311, ADSL Modem Alcatel Speed Touch 510
ADSL works fine, and the printer also works fine when not printing online.
But when we are online and try to print a page from a website, the
printer starts printing maybe up to one page and then the whole system
crashes/reboots without any warning. After the reboot there is
information that there's something in the printer's waiting line.
Decision either to cancel or to print in RAW.
The crash also happens, when we are online and try to print something
from Word or Word Pad.
We have already installed the latest driver for the hp deskjet 970 Cxi,
but that didn't help. And as I said the printer works fine when we are
not online. And Norton 2005 says there are no viruses.
Appreciate any information, thanx
Peter Sch.

are you using an USB DSL modem? If yes, try to remove your printer drivers
completely and reinstall. If you're a little bit more advanced user you
could monitor the files that get installed with printer driver and modem
and change them one by one to see which one causes the troubles.
why is it that all people having problems always have something from Norton
installed? :-) *hint*
I could imagine that either a driver overwrote an essential system file
with a version that causes the crashes or the DSL modem is simply
incompatible but without further investigation it remains pure speculation.
Only solution I can think of right now is to do a fresh installation of
Windows.

Ich danke f deine Hinweise und nehme an, dass wir auch in deutscher

I am not using a usb adsl modem. It's the ethernet alcatel speed touch
510. But the deskjet 970 cxi printer is connected to a usb port.
A friend just informed me that there is a known problem with win98se and
USB devices when you are online with ADSL (ethernet). So he advised me
to deinstall the printer and reinstall with parallel connection.
I'll let you know if it works.

well, of course :->
never heard of such a problem but since that's another option I think it
wouldn't hurt to just try out...
BTW: there are a bunch of PPPoE drivers out there (if that's what you're
using in Austria, not sure though)
OK, good luck!

Deinstalling the printer (usb) and reinstalling with parallel connection
did the trick. Everything is working fine.

online.
Norton
speculation.
Hi,
As for Norton Internet Security and mixed WAN & LAN environment: I used to
have the same problem at home if I dared to switch on my USB ADSL modem
after the LAN switch. For some reason, the personal firewall would then
block most trafic to the LAN (probably assuming that it would be hostile, I
use fixed 10.x.x.x IP addresses for my LAN). I finally changed something in
advanced settings to allow the LAN to be trusted all the time and so far, no
more problems.
Good thing, as it turned out that printing over the network goes quite a bit
faster than over the parallel port.
I hope this helps,
Alvin.

2.Questions about printing, printing and printing
Hi everybody.
A friend of mine give me two HP calculators he dont'use anymore: an HP-28S
and an HP-17BII. Including my HP-49G+, now I have 3 HP calculators that are
able to print (on a "grand total" of 6 HP calculators). I would like to
print something but I don't want to spend too much (my wife can't
understand).
Now the questions:
1. Are some printers out there compatible with the 3 calcs?
2. Do you know if is there a IR printer server that can be connected to an
external printer (USB, parallel, RS232, etc.).
3. Do know if is possibile to use a PC as a printer gateway for the 3
calculators?
Do you have some suggestions?

3.HP-UX Print Problem - Print Job Prints Repeatedly
4.need help on creating a print server which other server send their print jobs to
Hi,
I am new in hp-ux and I have already a "big" issue I am trying to work
out:
We have a HP-UX 11.11 server which acts as a print server with several
>(> 20) emote and network printers configured on it (we are NOT
using HP Distributed Print ervice). In addition, we have 3 other
HP-UX 11.11 server which act as db, file nd application server. Now
my task is to make those network and remote printer also available to
the ther server.
Now, as I see I have 3 options:
) Declare each printer on all other server just like on the print
server.
cons: time consuming, changes must be applied to 4 instead of only one
server, not very legant
) Write a script which cp and updates all configuration files on
the remaining 3 erver.
cons: very fault-prone and hard to realise
) Configure the 3 other server to forward all requests directly to
the main print server.
I prefer option 3. It's the most elegant but I'm not sure if it's
possible at all. Crux on the matter is that I didn't configure/install
any of the server myself to know where the roblems are.
I really appreciate any help and I'm looking forward to your
suggestions.
Thanks

Is there a setting for the HP5SI that allows tray print jobs to print

order. Printouts to the back mean that every page has to be flipped
