I have an HP m385c media center pc. 2.8GHz, 512 Mb ram, 160 G 7200 RPM disk. When I get an email with a word doc attached, even a short 10 page document, and i open it from the email, it takes 20-25 seconds to display it onscreen. this is ridiculous, but i can't figure out what's happening. thought it might be the notorious Norton Anti-Virus so I uninstalled that. Not the culprit. usually opening Word is instantaenous. Ditto opening a file in Word. So I assume Outlook Express is doing something that's slowing things up, but what? Anyone got a clue? I got my HP ze5375us notebook from Best Buy. It's the ze5300 series pavilion. After 30 to 40 minutes of normal word processing/internet surfing, the keyboard becomes uncontrollable -- for example, the delete key prints a "5" and the other keys are similarly scrambled. Second, the mouse is uncontrollable -- the cursor hyper jumps from one side of the screen to the other. I think it's heat related. If I take a sealed cold pack and place it underneath the RAM compartment, these problems go away. I had best buy ship it to HP. Anybody had similar problems with this notebook? BTW, I always ensure that the fan area is never obstructed - 3. HP Pavillion 8160 turns itself on
I have an old HP pavillion 8160 that when I shut down, will stay that way for a short period of time (I forget how long) and then turn itself back on. Does anyone know where to look for this? I looked through the bios, and there is no mention of anything related to auto-on when signals show up, say, in the modem card. It /is/ connected to the phone line. But the turning on isn't coincident with incoming calls, or receiver pick ups, etc. Help. Thanks - 4. HP-6020 CD-writer
Hi, I bought a used PC with a HP 6020 (SCSI) CD-writer. However, I do not have the proper software to use it. I tried installing my Roxio software which supports most CD-writers, but apparently not this one. Does anyone know what software I could use, and where to get it ? Many thanks! Bart. - 5. JetDirect 170x Goes Off Network
Twice now I've had my JetDirect 170x disappear from the network. It flashes the status light indicating that no network is found. Disconnect / reconnect of network cable and power don't help. I printed the JetDirect settings to the printer to find that it was unable to find its dhcp server. The dhcp server was running fine and giving out addresses to other devices. I ran Ethereal and found that there was no traffice whatsoever coming from the JetDirect. I changed the network cable; no luck. Finally I power-cycled the hub that it connects to. That fixed it. Now this is the same hub that supports 2 other pc's, neither of which have any issue. Both pc's talk 100 MBit; the JetDirect is only 10. I wonder if there is an issue of it needing to renegotiate its network speed with the hub? The hub is an SMC 5604DS (which was running fine and had no error conditions). HI, In your experience working with HP LaserJet 2300 series printers, 1. How many times the toner cartridge can be refilled without affecting the print quality? 2. Practically, how many total prints can be expected from new cartridge+ refills? My requirement is to print mostly simple text and some pdf files with normal graphics. I would appreciate your answer.
