Hi, My OfficeJet G95 FAX won't go off hook before sending dial-digits, or answer the phone. I've checked everything - the line, etc. The machine rings when called, but does not pick up. Short of replacing hardware, does anyone have any suggestions? I've spent $32 on HP assistance, to no avail. TIA

Hi I have got a second hand HP Laserjet 5M printer with no manual book. I have set it up for my home network and it now works fine (tricky though. Any one wants to know how to set it up please let me know). Yesterday I was trying to pull the cartridge out but it seems it's locked there. I am not sure what is supposed to be the correct way to take it out. I don't want to break anything. Is there any lock/mechanism I need to release before I pull it out or just pull it hard until it comes out? Any one who has experience on this printer please help. Thank you. ad - 2. Pavilion Win 98 can't find modem / sound
My Pavilion 8190 was serving me well enough until I tried upgrading the OS to Win 98 SE. I've "set up" the program so many times I have memorized the key code but cannot get the modem (Lucent winmodem) or sound card properly recognized and operating. I believe I've tried every tip or trick to be found in various HP and Microsoft troubleshooting docs, including clean booting from DOS, installing from setup files copied to hard drive, deleting ports and modem to let windows properly re-assign the hardware, assuring I have the latest (5.49) modem driver, "manually" assigning resources, changing (and restoring) BIOS settings as suggested in a Microsoft document, "manually" selecting from a list, assuring no "conflicts" exist, etc., etc. On various re-boots / re-installs, I get errors (settings / control panel / modems / diagnostics / more info) such as "Port already open," "can't open port," etc. or the modem appears on COM 1 instead of COM 2. The Win 98 uninstall works perfectly each time and restores the machine to perfect working condition under Win 95 B. So, am I missing something obvious, or obscure and documented somewhere, that would encourage me to try and re-install Win 98 yet again before calling Mr. Dell or his friends? Many thanks in advance. My 2 year old ze5000 hard drive failed. Since it is an IBM Travelstar HD, does anyone know if it carries a longer warranty? Would IBM replace the drive?

4.JetDirect 170x Goes Off Network
Twice now I've had my JetDirect 170x disappear from the network. It flashes the status light indicating that no network is found. Disconnect / reconnect of network cable and power don't help. I printed the JetDirect settings to the printer to find that it was unable to find its dhcp server. The dhcp server was running fine and giving out addresses to other devices. I ran Ethereal and found that there was no traffice whatsoever coming from the JetDirect. I changed the network cable; no luck. Finally I power-cycled the hub that it connects to. That fixed it. Now this is the same hub that supports 2 other pc's, neither of which have any issue. Both pc's talk 100 MBit; the JetDirect is only 10. I wonder if there is an issue of it needing to renegotiate its network speed with the hub? The hub is an SMC 5604DS (which was running fine and had no error conditions). Note -- if you are replying to this message, make sure to remove the NOSPAM from my address.
