Hearts of Iron 2 - developer interview at the Adrenaline Vault

Postby eddysterckx » Thu, 18 Nov 2004 21:17:00 GMT

Hi,

Read the full interview here :

 http://www.**--****.com/

Highlights :

- completely overhauled battle system
- very big UI changes to enhance control and access to data
- a 120+ page manual + various tutorials and tooltips for every button
- simplified and more clear techtree

Looks like everything I found problematic with HoI 1 has been
addressed, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to see if the
enhancements on paper also appear in the real world.

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

I know everyone else seems to hate it, but the tech-tree is one of my
favorite parts of HOI. I loved reading about each thing at first. This
game has always been a little about fun history to me; not just a game.

I do hope they do something about the way air is handled.

A tech tree where you had to research the proverbial particular type of
screw first to get Tiger tanks later drove me nuts. If they are smart
they'll leave the micromanaging in for those who like this sort of stuff,
but automate the process for the others.

That's a bit exaggerated. The only tech requirements for any given
tank were (1) a gun, (2) a chassis, and (3) the actual build order for
the tank prototype. Not really that difficult.

I have to agree with the previous poster in that the tech tree is one
of HOI's strengths. It's not overly abstract and does, indeed,
provide a bit of a "history lesson" while playing. HOI had/has some
problems, but I don't think the tech tree was one of them.

Looking forward to HOI2!

How long is it now since the "Under Refurbishment" banner went up at the

Sad to say after all those years, but it looks like it's dead as a Dodo.
