EA does it again.. So far no one that has bought Battlefield 2142 Deluxe has been able to activate and play the Northern Strike content that is included. 8 guys in my clan alone can't get it working. Other BF2 clans we play with are reporting the same. We never bothered with the original 2142 and decided to wait for the inevitable deluxe version to avoid EA's craptastic download and activation-booster pack scam. Plus cheaper price. TONS of people are complaining about it on the forums and of course EA is deleting threads again. Like Epic on the UT3 boards with hoars of complaints. I'm done with EA..

Halo PC version video card issues

Postby Roland Young » Sun, 12 Sep 2004 08:36:41 GMT

I have a video-card related performance problem with Halo on the PC.

When I try to run Halo from WinXP, I get a message telling me that my video
hardware is below the recommended minimum specs. I tried to run the game
anyway, and at first it just crashed to Windows. However when I downloaded
the latest drivers it ran, but with a highly flickering screen and greyscale
graphics (i.e. unplayable).

My specs are:

AMD3000+ 1024MB RAM
64MB KN400A Integrated Graphics - Driver: KN400 Unichrome Integrated
Graphics 169439-06
VIA Extreme Chipset - Driver: VIA Hyperion 4in1 v4.53
DirectX 9.0c installed

The minimum video card required is "32MB/3D T&L capable". Surely what I have
exceeds this?

Any help to improve the performance would be appreciated - thanks!

You've got an onboard video system, Roland, but you can see if your setup is
supported by reviewing this Knowledge Base article:

to see if it'll help you.

The game has already told him not. What's so hard to understand here?
The graphics card may have a big name, but it doesn't have big performance.

Look into upgrading to something like a ATI 9600 Pro : cheap and fast
and easily the best reviewed card for a long long time with regards to
bang for buck.

I don't know much about that onboard video.. but I reckon it doesn't have a
proper Texture and Lighting plumbing. Does any onboard video have T&L?

That's why I posted information so he can understand, and see, what is
required.

NOOOO! Seriously though, you wont be able to play any game with
onboard video. I had Onboard Intel extreme (extremly shit) that was
64mb. It simply cannot cope for {*filter*}. Also Onboard video steals
memory from your ram because it has no onboard vram. I also couldnt
play halo with this, so i bought a Raddy 9600 pro with 256mb vram. Its
Excellent :-) Graet value for money.

2.Halo - video card issue - please help

my pc is only 6 months old (p4 2.2 GHz). the video card
is a ProSavage DDR and has the latest driver installed.
my copy of Halo is an actual purchased copy. latest halo
video patch has been installed. the error msg i keep
getting is that the vid card is known to cause issues with
the game...and then the game shuts down b4 even loading.

the 'unsupported' video cards list only mentions the
ProSavage card (an earlier version of my card), but the
game reads it as the same.

is there a way around this error to see if the game will
in fact play on the video card?

3.Halo PC sound and video issues

In Halo for the PC, the nightvision function of the
sniper rifle does not work properly. Zooming with the
rifle works with the nightvision off, but when it is
turned on, everything turns black, even when used in
areas of the game where there is plenty of light.

Also, during the section of the game where the Master
Chief is reviewing the video record of Private Jenkins,
only small "blocks" of the video are visible on the
screen at any one time. None of these errors were
apparently with earlier ATI Catalyst driver releases.
Unfortunetely, I do not know which driver that
specifically was.

Also, voices of people during cut scenes tend to cut out
for some reason. This includes among others, the Master
Chief, Cortana, and Captain Keyes.

Any ideas on resolving these issues?
