GalCiv2: Euro version multilibgual?

Postby Michael Vondung » Tue, 07 Mar 2006 23:11:06 GMT

This is mostly for Brad, but perhaps anyone else knows the answer also: Is
the German/European release of GalCiv2 going to be multilingual? In other
words, will I be able to choose the installation language?

I'm asking because the continental EU version will be just 35 Euro (release
on the 16th) and the import version is sold at fifty Euro over here, and
the former is also less complicated to get my hands on.

1.GalCiv2: Update issues (Euro version)

Today I received the German version CE of GalCiv2. After installing and
briefly running it (ran just fine), I went to the Stardock site, registered
my copy, downloaded the Stardock Central and then downloaded the latest
patch that was displayed. After its successful installation, the start menu
of the game was now in English (wouldn't be a problem), but after clicking
"play game", the software now crashes right after the intro (the German
intro didn't have any music or speech, my updated version now does). It
just says that a bug was encountered and that the application must be
closed.

So, what am I to do? The manual refers to the GalCiv2.com site. There is no
official German site and thus no patch that is dedicated to the German
version of the game. My guess is that every buyer of the German version
will do exactly the same as I did (it was just released today, on the
23rd).

I know, I should simply have bought the English version and save myself any
such trouble, but well, hindsight ... I'm now sitting here on a CE that I
apparently have to uninstall, reinstall, and play in the previous,
allgededly slightly buggy version. Not to mention that I am on ISDN (little
better than dial-up) and spent the afternoon downloading (and paying for
for it) nearly 80 MB for nothing.

Any pointers?

2.(OT) Euro PS3 to play fewer old games than Jap and US versions

3.Battlefield 2 Euro weird lag

I have been playing BF2 and special forces tons on a very high end system
and other than the waiting to play BS if the ping is decent haven't had
substantial lag problems. Today I downloaded the eur 9.99 special and for
the price it is ok except for one I consider major problem that others in
the game were bitching about also. There seems to be a lag over the player
you are about to shoot at in they all look like enemies and then if they are
friends slowly the green or blue name appears. Doesn't seem to be any lag
on movement or the shot or anything like that but just the name so you shoot
and as you bullet cruises through the air you find out your gonna be a tker
totally unintentionally. this then causes you to pause longer before
shooting which is all well and good but it gets you dead too. I probably
had more tk's today than in my entire time playing the game. I like to
snipe and it is particularly bad at distance. You see the other sniper
aiming at you or a teammate and you fire and he is a teammate ouch.
The maps are kind of interesting and challenging although not as
challenging as getting the game to purchase and set up. You need EA ID's
and Gamespy ID's its goofy and the new EA downloader is anything but fast.
