  • 1. Good wargames site?
Looking for a site that has reviews of PC wargames. What I'd really like is a "recommended" section to browse what games are out there and give some top picks that you can choose from depending on your preferences. I'm looking my next Panzer General (real time or turn-based).
  • 2. What's up with AOM-T characters?
Had something of a similar problem in AOM - players would get trapped and be unable to move in some levels, but, especially bad is when Amanra would move but not walk and not fight. You could move her to a location, but, she didn't walk there, she just moved. Finding same problem with AOM-T, this time in the Making Amends level, but, the problem is generally with Ajax, and sometimes Kastor as well. They won't fight, so obviously they get killed. Then, they won''t revive once you control the immediate area again. Anyone else having this problem? Or a fix? I have the latest upgrade to the game engine, so that's not it. ?? I searched all the boards anywhere online and can't find this problem listed anywhere.

Homeworld2 installation on Win 98

Postby mike pro » Wed, 14 Apr 2004 00:24:48 GMT

Has anyone yet discovered a way to install Homeworld2 on Windows 98...?

After clicking to install an error message appears, before even a single
file is transferred :

"Could not load the DLL library D:\dll4wise.dll. One of the library files
needed to run this application cannot be found"

So far I've tried copying all files from the cd-rom to the HDD and try
installing that way, same error occurs with the file destination on the
hard-disk...
When viewing hidden files it's clearly there and both the O/S and system
requirements meet that which are stated in the Readme file...

Windows 98 (original not SE)
1.2G Athlon
ATI 9500
512mb RAM

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had no problems installing Homeworld 2 to my Win98SE machine.

Of course, I also had no problems uninstalling Homeworld 2 about a
week later, after I realized what a piece of {*filter*}it was.

As to the specific file you're having problems with, I don't know what
to tell you, sorry ... bug their tech support line for a few hours,
that'll cost them more money than you spent on the game.

2.win 95/98 game played on win xp?

I have an older game created for win 95/98, and I'm
hoping to install it on my computer with win xp - is this
possible? If so, how?

3.Running Win 95/98 games on Win XP Home

I recently replaced a 5 yr old PC running Windows 98
(first ed) with new PC running Windows XP Home Ed. I
still have game CDs that I used with my old PC. The game
CDs are labelled for use with Windows 95/98 mostly,
including Jane's WWII Fighters (name?) that never ran
right on the old PC.

My question is can I SAFELY install these Win 95/98 games
on my Windows XP Home PC? A fellow at a local computer
store said installing software not specifically labelled
for use with Windows XP could screw up files in my Windows
operating system. That's something I don't want to
remotely risk doing.

I appreciate your advice.

4.Stonekeep in Win 98

I bought a Pentium 233MMX for $20 from a friend specifically to run
Stonekeep. It installs from the Ultimate RPG Archives disk fine, and the
setup routine runs fine, but when I try to run from a dos prompt, I
eventually just get a black screen. Same thing happens with trying to run
from the Win95 .pif icon. Anyone have a fix for this?

5.Win 98 SE and USB2

Tried to install a DvD writer on a HP Pavilion 6535 that has Win 98 SE.
I was able to find a driver on one of the CD's that came with the unit.
Once the unit was installed, the PC was v e r y slow and locked up almost
constantly where I had to just turn off the PC. I could see the unit as a
drive and didnt see any problems in hardware device drivers.

My question is the HP Pavilion 6535 capable of supporting USB2 and is Win 98
SE friendly to supporting USB2 drivers?
I couldnt find anything on HP's web site about USB2 supported on this
model.

 Thanks much!
