We have enabled logging for all our websites. I would like to automatically delete log files after 90 days. Is there a way to do this in IIS? Or can a create a batch file to do this (if so, how)? Apologies if I haven't provided enough information, tell me what you would need to know in order to provide helpful feedback (I'm new at this). Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide!

Greetings, I have a Windows 2000 (SP4) web server that has developed a disturbing habit lately. It is rebooting itself seemingly at random. There are no server events listed prior to a reboot. When it first start doing this I set the Startup and Recovery options to NOT automaticly reboot, but it is anyways. Any idea on what I could check to fix this? Thanks in advance, Patrick
  • 3. IIS 6 Network Service Account vs. IIS 5 IWAM_<MachineName>
I have recently moved our company's intranet website from a Windows 2000 server to a Windows 2003 server. Previously, we had setup the permissions so that the IWAM_<MachineName> account could access files in a share on another server. Now that I have moved to W2K3, I am not sure what I need to do to establish the same functionality as the IWAM_ account does not exist. Can anyone provide me with some good information on this topic or point me to some good resources? Thanks, Tyler

Sending mail to external source.

Postby Gary Whittle » Thu, 01 Jul 2004 08:59:02 GMT

Hello,

I am running Windows Server 2003 edition, hosting with One and One internet.
I am having a strange problem with mail. One and one "split" any domains
you buy into two sections if you will, the web services are provided by the
Windows Server, and the Email services are provided externally by One and
One.

Now, when I set up a domain name on IIS, for example: domain.com , and I
then try to send MAIL from the server to XXXX@XXXXX.COM , the mail
bounces as it is simply looking locally for an account.

I dont want to use an SMTP server to send the mail, as my site uses CDO
extensively and sends out 2000 emails per day.

Any ideas what I can do here?

Kindest Regards,

Gary Whittle.

Hi again,

I think I *may* have solved it.
In IIS, I browsed to SMTP server, I then added the domain as a REMOTE domain
and checked the "Allow incoming mail to be relayed to this domain". Seems
like it may be working now!
What a pain, 1and1 refuse to give any tech support for Windows Server
Software Issues...

1) You have to use an SMTP server to send mail, you just don't have
to use a local one.

2) You say the mail "bounces" but there's no way we can help you with
this description. Give an error message and a log entry.

3) Have you designated the remote SMTP server in CDO?

4) Have you worked with your web host in accomplishing this? After
all, they're the ones controlling your system and it's requirements.

1.Internal mails never send - external does

Using CDO on my web server (IIS 6.0), I send mails through the SMTP service.
When sending mails to any external email address, the mails are send and
received correct.
But when sending mails to internal email addresses (on same domain), the
mails are never received.
The mails seems to be send - no error - no mails in BadMail folder.
Instead an Undeliverable mail is send to the sender, either saying "The
format of the e-mail address is incorrect" or "You do not have permission to
send to this recipient"

Any help appriciated.

5.Problem with sending mails to external domains

Hi,

We have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack
3 and IIS 5. We have hosted an application which sends
mail through IIS's SMTP service. Now, whenever I try
sending mail to an external domain through the
application, the mail stays in the Queue folder and does
not get sent. The Event Log gives me this:

=========================================

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: smtpsvc
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4000
Date: 8/24/2004
Time: 3:45:15 PM
User: N/A
Computer: XSERVER
Description:
Message delivery to the remote domain 'x.x.co.in' failed
for the following reason: An SMTP protocol error occurred.

Data:
0000: d7 02 04 c0 .

=========================================

I searched using the Event ID and source and got a few
results that told me that forwarders were not enabled in
DNS. I enabled forwarders and mentioned my ISP's DNS
server IPs. I restarted the DNS service and the SMTP
service. The mails still don't go.

I tried googling for the following string: "An SMTP
protocol error occured" and all the results on the web
said that it could be because of Exchange Server. We do
not use Exchange Server. What could be the problem? What
could be the solution???

Please help!
