  • 1. IE 6.0/ Other programs thinks, I have an earlier version of IE
IE works fine most of the time for me, but for some reason macromedia and yahoo programs both think I have a previous version running. Example 1): When I go to marcomedia website to download new objects. Macromedia informs me that my browser isn't up to date and to download the updates. I've download mircosofts updates and mostly get this statement "you have a newer version, update canceled". I still unable to download from macromedia. Example 2): Yahoo on occassion will ask me to update my browser. Unrelated problem that does occur or maybe involed some how, is if I go to drive C and try to delete a file. IE will shutdown and start over. Any help would be great. As I said at the top, downloading updates doesn't work, since a)doesn't install or b)states I have a newer version already. Thanks Btrip1
  • 2. IE 6 setup issues
I have gone into the run and regedit and located the file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85- 00AA005B4383}located the install and and changed the 0 to a 1 and still get the setup message when I start IE6. Any assistance would be appreciated in ways to turn this off. My operating system is Windows XP Home.

I managed to get these tabs working and leave the site in the Trusted Zone by enabling "Active Scripting" in the Internet Zone. Does anyone have any insight as to why a site in the Trusted Zone relies on settings in the Internet Zone? Thanks, Terry
  • 4. I'm trying to install IE6 but it keeps locking up.
When I do go to install it, the first thing that happens is that i get an error telling me 'cannot make a directory entry' and it says that "setup could not finish opening a file on your destination disk." source file: 'c:\windows\temp\IXp000.TMP\iesetup.inf' destination file 'c:\windows\inf\iesetup.001=Iesetup.inf' it tells me i can skip the file if i want to, but it seems like everytime i try to install, the thing locks up at 90% and can't continue. If i skip the file or not, it still locks up. Oh, and I am running Microsoft Windows ME. I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by going into the file
called "hosts" in system32\drivers\etc. I just deleted
all the entries, but you might be able to do it by only
deleting the ones that start with "127.0.0.1"

I had installed Spyblocker, and it had edited the file,
other programs may do the same. Hope it helps. Peace out.

I had a display picture on my msn messenger page, I updated to msn live

picture dissapeared and I was not able to put it back. All what I see in
Change display picture are choices for dynamic pictures galleries and no
regular pictures that I could choose from. When I chose an image and click OK
a dialog box is informing me that is an invalid image file regardless of what
file I'm choosing, I give up after trying some 20. I cannot say whether
Microsoft is trying to forcing us into getting an account with a bloatware

4.Picture browsers will not display images.

All program browsers for opening an image have suddenly started showing logos
instead of thumbnail images, even though I check "thumbnails" where available
as an option. I want to be able to view actualy image thumbnails in programs
such as Photoshop CS2, Pictures browser, my web page designer software, etc.
These all had been working fine. Any suggestions? I have Vista Home Premium.

5.Some GIF Pictures not displaying in browser

I have a problem getting all the pictures to display in
6.0 like on the MSN main page MSN 8 Gif picture in the
box on the right. I have tried many things to cllear up
this problem without luck.

I also habe an error message when running Office XP 2000
and runing Office about the Marcos not being activated.

Any help about how to fix this would be much
appriciated...I think the GIF problem maybe related to
the firewall in XP Professional can this be turned off?
