  • 1. mshtml.dll problem
I get the error"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. Sorry for the inconvenience" when trying to go to certain url's. For instance, Hotmail.com and Internet Explorer home page on microsoft.com. In the windows that open, the error is caused by an mshtml.dll fil. Checking the knowledge base I find only references to older versions of IE and other programs. Does anyone have a solution? Thank You -- May the farce be with you.
  • 2. Problems with MS Newsgroups
IE 6.0. I have a recurring problem when using the Microsoft Newsgroups (where I am posting this). Quite often when I go to a forum, instead of getting a listing of the posts, I get the following in the frame: Sorry, the page you requested is not available. The page you were looking for is currently not available. The address may not be correct, or there may be a temporary problem with this site. Please try one of the following options: Check the address for typing errors. Click the Back button and try a different option from the navigation menu. Try this page again later. For additional assistance, try one of the pages below: Microsoft has told me to go to Internet options and delete cookies and temp files. When I do this it then works properly. BUT WHY AM I HAVING TO DO THIS ALL THE TIME? I GET THE SAME PROBLEM WHETHER AT WORK ON AN XP BOX OR AT HOME ON A WIN2000 BOX. Also, when I log into the .NET (to post to the newsgroups) I always check "Log me on automatically." Yet I have to logon again each time I come to the newsgroups, and most of the time my username is not even in the logon box. What gives?
  • 3. IE6 will not launch
When I attempt to start IE6 I get the proverbial error message: IE has encountered ... inconvience. The error signature contains AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: webband.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00004e30. Once the error report has been sent, IE closes. Outlook Express and Netscape both work just fine. I have downloaded and installed Windows XP SP1a and have updated and run Ad-Aware, Spybot and Norton. Windows updates have been kept up to date. Any ideas?
  • 4. IE6 for XP-PRO SP2 hangs when printing from portal
IE6 prints from web without problems except from one portal - then it hangs requiring intervention from the task manager. I can print from this portal using XP on my home computer. Any suggestions for resolving this would be appreciated. I tried to reinstall IE without any success - since it is never really uninstalled in the first place. (Accessing this site only from home is not a solution since I am not the one who has to do the data entry!!!) Thanks and Happy New Year Randy]

I had the same problem. I fixed it by going into the file
called "hosts" in system32\drivers\etc. I just deleted
all the entries, but you might be able to do it by only
deleting the ones that start with "127.0.0.1"

I had installed Spyblocker, and it had edited the file,
other programs may do the same. Hope it helps. Peace out.

2.display picture dissapeared, cannot change display picture

I had a display picture on my msn messenger page, I updated to msn live
messenger (after being more or less forced to do so). At some point today my
picture dissapeared and I was not able to put it back. All what I see in
Change display picture are choices for dynamic pictures galleries and no
regular pictures that I could choose from. When I chose an image and click OK
a dialog box is informing me that is an invalid image file regardless of what
file I'm choosing, I give up after trying some 20. I cannot say whether
Microsoft is trying to forcing us into getting an account with a bloatware
gallery provider (read : the dynamic picture gallery providers) or simply

4.Picture browsers will not display images.

All program browsers for opening an image have suddenly started showing logos
instead of thumbnail images, even though I check "thumbnails" where available
as an option. I want to be able to view actualy image thumbnails in programs
such as Photoshop CS2, Pictures browser, my web page designer software, etc.
These all had been working fine. Any suggestions? I have Vista Home Premium.

5.Some GIF Pictures not displaying in browser

I have a problem getting all the pictures to display in
6.0 like on the MSN main page MSN 8 Gif picture in the
box on the right. I have tried many things to cllear up
this problem without luck.

I also habe an error message when running Office XP 2000
and runing Office about the Marcos not being activated.

Any help about how to fix this would be much
appriciated...I think the GIF problem maybe related to
the firewall in XP Professional can this be turned off?
