  • 1. IE7 - How to change the default home page
May seem like a simple question, but please don't supply the obvious answer. I've already tried that. Here's the problem. I have a dell computer and Dell provided they're own Dell branded I.E. 6.0 when I bought it. I promptly changed the home page to my own, using Internet Options\General Tab and selected "Use Current". Worked well back then! I've upgraded to IE 7.0 and seems all the rules changed. The default home reverted back to the one Dell stuck in there, under version 6.0. I've tried "use current" where I've manually typed in the URL. No good. Next time I start IE 7.0 again, the old Dell home page URL is back in that box! I was thinking it might be some entry in the registry, so I tried to search for that character string in the registry. No good. So, all y'all experts, how do I reset the default home page? And don't tell me to contact dell. My PC is no longer under their support services. Tanks, Vince -- Thanks, Vince
  • 2. Compression and IE6 SP2
Hi there, I am running IE Version 6.0.2900 with SP2. Recently, compression was enabled on webSEAL for our java application and we immediately experienced blank pages for one of our applications. We found a similar issue in Microsoft KB and implemented the following as a workaround: 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options. 2. Click the Advanced tab. 3. In the Settings box, scroll down to the Security section, and select the Do not save encrypted pages to a disk check box. Upon implementing the above, we were able to run the application i.e. no more blank pages. Unfortunately, we were then unable to download, save, view or export files from the application. The message was "Internet Explorer cannot download ... filename.ext from server address" Again, we think found a similar issue in Microsoft KB (Article ID : 837251) for the above but it was mentioned that it is only applicable for those on IE6 SP1. Has anyone else experienced the same thing in IE6 SP2? Seems like the issue is not fully fixed in SP2. I am not able to upgrade to IE7 since there are other applications that will not work on IE7 at the moment. Appreciate any comments/feedback I can get on this matter.
  • 3. IE 6 keeps crashing. Urgent Help Please!
Hello, everyone. My IE 6 keeps crashing in Windows 2003 STD with SP1. The IE 6 buils is 6.0.3790.1830 128-bit SP1 I have done the following. I reinstalled SP1 once. It still crashes. It crashes on some sites. I suspect that the Java Script might be the cause. I can't be sure. What tools can I use to help me capture more detail of the crashes? Here is the Dr. Watson log The application, C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 05/29/2007 @ 10:49:00.843 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 04367A20 (<nosymbols>) Thanks.
  • 4. Active x controls for non admins
I have pushed several active x controls through landesk to install on my network machines consisting of win 2000 and xp boxes. I have added the site to the trusted sites in IE using GPO. Non of our users are admins on their boxes, I would have thought this would be enough. If a user then goes to the site the activex controls will not run and I get an error about not being able to create an object. What options do I have without making the users local admins? One option that seems ok is to remotely open IE as an admin and go to the site. The next time a user does this we should be fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
