  • 3. XP Virtual Machine in Win 7 - strange happenings
I have an XP Virtual Machine running under Windows 7 Professional "Windows Virtual PC" so that I can run some 'legacy' applications which won't work in Win 7. In the virtual machine, Windows Explorer shows a local disk (C:) and also all the disks on the host machine - and allows me to copy files back and forth. Most of the applications running in the virtual machine are quite happy to read and write data files on the host machine. However Word 2000[1] (and Excel 2000) are not. If I try to open a file from the host machine in Word, it just hangs - and CPU usage goes to 100% On the other hand, if I copy a file from the host machine to the local disk, it then opens quite happily in Word. It's presumably got something to do with sharing and file privileges etc., but why should Word (and other Office 2000 applications) behave differently from (say) Quicken in this respect? Any ideas? [1] In case you're wondering why I'm running Word in a virtual machine, I need to use a particular pseudo printer driver (Jaws - for creating PDF files) which won't work in Win7, and I need to open Word files in order to 'print' them. (Yes, there are other PDF converters which *will* run in Win7 - but I haven't yet found one with the same security options as Jaws). -- Cheers, Roger ____________ Please reply to Newsgroup. 3.Dell Laptop E1505 battery problems

Hi, i hope someone can help. I have a Dell E1505 and am currently on m

4.Inspiron E1505 Battery Issue

I have an Inspiron E1505 and having a battery issue. The battery wasn'
holding much charge and I followed (now, I know poor) directions t
drain the battery completely by turning off the powersave settings an
letting the battery drain completely.

The AC will charge the battery and the battery will hold a charge fo
about an hour or so but the laptop (neither XP or the BIOS) will no
detect that a battery is installed. If I unplug AC, it will stay o
even though I turned the power save settings back on but it doesn't kno
how much power is left on the battery.

I have checked the tester on the battery and all five lights come on.
Is there any way to fix it so the laptop will detect the charge on th
battery since it all seems to be working except the computer reading th
charge?

Thanks,

Alliso

5.e1505 and wireless card problem

Hi: When I close the lid on my Dell E1505 laptop I occasionally lose
my wireless network connection. Under Power Options in the control
panel I have the system set to Always On with nothing being shutdown
ever. Under the wireless device settings I have the setting "Power
Save Mode" disabled.

I really want to work with this laptop lid closed most of the time
(have external monitor and keyboard) but can't for the life of me
figure out why the wireless is dropping out when I close the lid. With
lid up it works flawlessly.

Running XP Pro SP2. The wireless card is a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN
mini-card.

thanks,
russ
