  • 2. FTP NAT FIREWALL
Hi all, I'm sorry I will post a question I saw hundreds of time but I have not found an answer for me. I have a linux firewall, clients on private LAN. They must connect to a pubblic ftp server on internet which use non-standard ports. I have loaded ip_conntrack, ip_conntrack_ftp and ip_nat_ftp but clients cannot do a get because "Can't build data connection: 10060". I tried also loading ip_conntrack and ip_nat_ftp with ftp non-standar ports specified with no results. Everything works with other ftp server on public internet with standard ports. Can anyone help me to understand the problem and the solution, of course. Bye

Using two DSL modems

Postby James S. Singleton » Sun, 14 Nov 2004 01:58:47 GMT

I have a DSL line at home, and five IP addresses reserved for me. I am
currently using only one IP address, but I have the need to start using at
least another. At the same time, I would like to have network access from
two different rooms at home.

I am aware that I could do this with a home LAN and a PC with two NICs,
but that's not what I want. What I want to know is, would it be possible
for me to have a PC connected to a DSL modem A, with IP address I1, and
another PC connected to a DSL modem B, with IP address I2? The DSL line is
the same in both cases.

My feeling is that this can't be done, but I wonder if someone with far
better savvy than me could give me feedback?

There you have it: both modems would share/access the same frequency
band which they can't. Before this issue isn't solved it does not matter
if your provider allows you to login twice or not. So you need to have
some kind of router that manages the public ip adresses for your local LAN.

Hope this info helps (I know it does not help the way you need)

First of all, I'm not a native english speaker, so, this message can include
gramatical and other errors :

As far as I know, a DSL line cannot be used at same time by two or more DSL
modem/routers, because of technical limitation.
Try to put your DSL router/modem on brigde mode, and then configure the
NIC's with the public IP's on LAN.

For two DSL modems you'll need two telephone lines. A DSL connection
will use all the capacity there is in the line (outside the normal
speech band).

Depending on the modem setup (bridged, routing, NAT) you may
succeed in branching the Ethernet line coming out of the modem
with a switch / hub.

You do not have an internal modem - I hope. With an internal modem
the only way is to route or NAT the network from the computer
with the modem.

Many external modems do have a multi-port Ethernet connection
(switch / hub). They usually also know to branch even a single
IP address to multiple computers at the local network.

The routed network is easier to firewall than multiple computers
with dircet connections to the Net. Please do not attempt to
run a DSL connection without a firewall, especially if there
are any Microsoft operating systems in the network. The active
content creeping from the Net is fast - a freshly installed
Windows 2000 was broken in in the time it took to load the
service pack from the Microsoft site.

1.Load Balancing between two DSL Modems

Hello,

I have two DSL modems and I want to use both (not only for getting
double bandwidth). I have found only two solutions:

1. using Load balancing router like DLink LB604 etc which has two WAN
ports.
2. using a PC which will have 3 network cards, 2 for 2 DSLs and 1 for
LAN (10 connection). then configuring the routing table so that some of
the machines use the one DSL and some second DSL.

Is there any other solutions?

Thanks,

2.two dsl connections, two routers, dual nics on linux box , want to run two websites

Hello,

I have two dsl connections, with one public ip on each. I have a linux
box with two nic cards.

xx.xx.xx.xx(WAN)---ROUTER(LAN23.123.45.110) ---- MYLINUX
(23.123.45.107) eth1
yy.yy.yy.yy(WAN)---ROUTER(LAN192.182.1.1) ---- MYLINUX
(192.168.1.100) eth0

I have apache listening on both interfaces.

Problem:

1. How do I make the packets route back to the gateway from which they
originate.

Currently the gateway marked as "default" is able to serve content
from the apache. The other one cannot.

I tried adding static routes, but that didn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Jay

3.Replacement dsl modem for DSL-604+

I have a D-LINK 604+ dsl mode / router. I would like to know if there is a modem
without router that I can get to replace this thing. My ISP, Telus is trying to
completely control what I do and I am stuck with this for 3 years. I will have
to pay $120.00 if I quit before the 3 years is up. The router that is part of
the thing has all ports closed and I can't get into my own station from work
anymore. I want to use the SMC7004 router I have but I will need to replace the
modem. The modem part of this runs at 2500 instead of 1500. At least that is
what Telus tells me. I don't believe anything they tell me anymore.
I can go to wireless isp with much higher speed that what I have but i would
have to spend quite a bit to do that. I can't really afford that. Any hints or
help really appreciated.
I just wish I had taken a bit more time to really find out what Telus really
wanted to do to me when they offered this higher speed. I would told them where
to go. By the way. Telus is our landline telephone company also.

We have a single Windows 2003 server that manages our internal LAN and
provides internet access through a DSL modem. A second, independent ISP

What is the best way of utilizing this second internet connection? Our
