  • 4. It must suck to be a Linux user
Ain't it the truth! I was in CompUSA today (they have a great deal on a Toshiba Laptop) and I heard a salesperson and 3, not 1, not 2, but 3, customers discussing Linux and how bad it is when it comes to supporting modern hardware. The salesperson confided off the record that they are forced to sell Linux software, but they don't recommend it because it is so bad compared to Windows and that most people who buy it end up screwing up their systems and come back to the store screaming. No surprise there! On another note there was a line waiting for a salseperson in the Apple dept. Seems, colleges are recommending Apple for their students because of the lower incidence of virii and spyware. I spoke with the poor sales drone and he told me it's like this everyday and they are looking to hire more knowledgeable Apple sales people. I asked about Linux and his answer was, and I quote: "You must be joking" When I replied, no I am not, he told me how much Linux sucks and how just about every copy of Linux they sell comes back to the store, attached to an irate consumer who just blew away their hard disk installing Linux. Typical.....

Bootable Linux CD, preferably live CD, for Sun Ultra 5 with Debian 3.x

Postby Nico Kadel-Garcia » Thu, 22 Jun 2006 21:30:24 GMT

For various reasons, I need to break into an abandoned Ultra 5 with Debian
installed, to back it up and make sure it wasn't doing anything important.
Unfortunately, the owners no longer have the root password for it, and the
previous person working on it left it set to require a root password to boot
it single user.

So I could really use a Sparc compatible rescue CD or live CD. What's the
easiest and best one to use? The Debian installation CD's? Would I just need
the first CD for that? (I really, really don't want to have to download all
12 of the Debian 3.1 Sparc CD's.)
