hi there...I"ve had tons of problems running Word X for Macintosh on my G5...lots of errors saying my file names are too long (when they're one letter), not allowing me to drag or save documents in different folders and getting error messages saying "missing data" (when saving it a few times over again sometimes fixes it) and so on... i checked the preferences box and i realized that it had been checked for WordPerfect 6 for windows, but there was only one mac option: 5.x.... is this correct, or is there a custom setting for the G5 that someone could tell me about? Does anyone recognize these problem? thanks so much...our office productivity has been dramatically decreased because of these issues.....
  • 2. WYSIWYG in automated content
Hi! I'm using Word 2004 with Mac OS 10.3.8 and since I've updated to this version, i'm not able to see or edit automated text like the table of content or the date. I'm just seeing a formula like this one : { TOC\0 "1-3" }. The funny thing is that when I copy that formula and paste it in textedit, I get the real text. Where is the setting to turn this off and get to see what will be printed? Thanks! Oliver
  • 3. Sluggish operation of Word; OS X 10.2.8
I have successfully run Word on my dual 1 MHz G4 for more than a year on OS 10.2.8 ... using 1.5 Gb RAM. However, recently Word has become sluggish. For example, it requires 13 secs to open the program, then requires 38 secs to open a one-page document when the program is open. If the program is NOT open, it requires 56 secs to open the one-page document. And remarkably, more than 100 secs are required to close Word. What is going on ?? Any suggestions are welcome.

Modification dates change when moving/copying between hard-drive and flash drive

Postby Michelle York » Sun, 30 Jul 2006 19:11:39 GMT

I posted this on the general office newsgroup, but it seems to be a dead
group the last few days. So hopefully someone here can give me some
feedback:

I believe that this is actually an Apple question, but I'm sure that there's
an Office user that might know the answer to it also. I use a flash drive
to store most of my work-related documents on. That way, I have them when
I'm at school (on a Windows XP computer) and at home on my Mac OS 10.3.9. I
try to occasionally back-up my flash drive by dragging it's contents to my
Mac. Copying in this direction USUALLY retains the appropriate modification
date.

However, if I move things from the Mac to the USB drive (I occasionally make
changes to a file on the Mac when my flashdrive isn't handy), the
modification date changes to the copy/move date. Is there a way around
this? It alters the information about the file and sometimes makes a
version look newer than another version of a document. When in reality,
it older--it just been moved/copied and the date changed.

I often move things back and forth for backup purposes, but if it keeps
changing the dates on it own, it impossible to tell which is REALLY the
most current copy/version.

2.Copying/Moving files from hard drive My Docs to flash drive

Flash drive is 32 MB with over half the space available. When I try to move
or copy or send (i.e., save) files from My Docs to the flash drive, I get the
following error message: "Error copying file or folder; cannot copy (name of
file): the directory or file cannot be created.

Yet, I can move a file already on the flash drive to the hard drive and
return it to the flash drive with no error. A first-time problem in five
years. So space is not an issue, and, as far as I can tell, there is no
damage to the drive; no files are corrupted.

Thanks for any suggestions.

3.Saving MS Word Document to Hard Drive and Flash Drive Simultaneously

When using MS Word 2007 on WinXP or Vista, is it possible to save the
document to both the hard drive and a flash drive simultaneously?

Many thanks in advance,
Peter
