I have created a document in MS Word to be printed in landscape mode on legal paper. The print preview looks correct--all appears normal. I have double checked that the layout is in legal, everything!! It prints as if on standard paper and leave a 3-inch gap on one end, cutting of 2 columns of text. HELP!!
  • 2. Word 2000 takes a long time to open Word X file
Word X template is used to create a new simple text only Word document. The new Word document is opened in Word 2000 under Windows 2000. It takes a long time to open and at the bottom of the screen there is some blurb about virus scan being requested. I have Norton AV 2004 on the Windows 2000 machine, but the wierd thing is that as soon as I click anywhere outside Word 2000 so that it loses focus and then immediately click back on Word 2000 the slow document has now opened. I do not have this problem with Word documents created in Word 2000 and viewed in Word 2000. Any ideas about what is in the Word X created document that is slowing things down? Of course, the Word X created document opens quickly in Word X. Thanks, Michael

The font command in the formatting palette has a convenient list of fonts "above the line" which, I imagine, is for frequently used fonts. Is there any way to control which fonts are above the line. A font I use frequently, Verdana, never seems to appear there for new documents, while fonts selected later do appear. Thanks, Neil

Spellcheck Problems

I recently bought Office: Mac 2008, and installed it. When I use word, the spelling checker will not check the main body of the document, however, it will check the footnotes. Using help, I followed the instructions in relation to installing proofing tools, as that was suggested as the root of the problem. Having reinstalled word, the spelling checker will work when I open a new document but it still will not work on any documents that I created before. I tried to copy and paste into a new document but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Aha! That is the clue!
Word associates a language to each style you use in your document.
It is all of London to a burnt match that the style used in the body of
the document has a language for which you do not have a dictionary.

Have a paddle in Formattyles or whatever they call it in 2008

If you are new at this sort of thing, remember that if you don't see a
language listed in the style definition, it will have inherited one
from one of its ancestors. Wander back up the BASED ON styles.

PS
Re-installing Word does nothing much except cause hair loss and
increased coffee consumption.

Out of the blue, spellcheck now underlines correctly spelled words, and ignores incorrectly spelled words. Does this on new documents. It's is as if the spell check instructions have been reversed. Any idea how to fix?

2.spellcheck problems

I am using Word 2007 on Windows XP Home in the UK.
I have set every option I can find to make English UK my default language
and Dictionary.

Often while doing Spell check I find that Word has decided to use English US
which means I have no option to save to Dict. and accept US spellings
without manually changing Language.
Why? and how to stop it?

3.spellcheck problem mac osx

My spell check doesn't work on MSWord for Mac osx. It keeps telling
me the check is complete even if i type in absurd words. It works in
Italian but not in English. It was working fine in both languages
i tried re-installing them but it didn't help

4.very strange spellcheck problem in Office XP SP3

My Windows XP Language and regional settings are set to English UK. (In fact
there is no other option there). My language setting in Word is set to
English UK and indeed does default to that when spellchecking a Word
document. Outlook is set to use Word as the Email editor, and
Tools-Option-Spelling-language is set to English UK.
WHY then, when creating a new email, does the spellcheck use *USA* English
as default?

5.Word 97 Spellcheck Problem

The problem I have is that Word sometimes replaces more than just the
incorrect word when doing a spell check.

For example,
This senntence has a typo.

When correcting the type in senntence, you will get something like

Thistence has a typo.

This isn't an exact error, but it is similar.

OS is both Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000.
