Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel To whom it may concern: <br><br>I am using Word's masterdocument feature to work on a large book project, consisting of 17 different chapters. Suddenly my formatting changes (line pitches, page breaks etc.) are not saved any longer: the next time I open the document, everything is back to where it was before. Text, however, can be changed and will keep that way. What is wrong and how can I solve the problem? Needless to say, all subdocuments etc. are unlocked and fully accessible. <br><br>Many thanks in advance, <br><br>Alexander
  • 2. Making Characters from Character Viewer More Easily Available
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm writing a manual where I need to often use both the Place of Interest Sign that denotes the Command key, as well as the Upwards White Arrow that typically means the Shift key, and I'm getting those from the Character Viewer, thanks to information from this forum. I'm wondering, however, if there is a way to make those characters available more readily, so that I might insert them with specially designated keystroke combinations, as you can with the symbols in Word? I'm using them enough now that I'm leaving the Character Viewer open, but it takes up room on the screen that I'd like to have back. <br><br>And if there is a way to do that, is it possible to save the characters with certain characteristics? For instance, when I insert them into text, they enter at the same size as the text for the style of the paragraph, but I'd like them to automatically be inserted larger (14 pt rather than 11 pt). <br><br>Thanks in advance.
  • 3. I cannot erase unwanted footnotes bacause I did not use reference marks
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I am working on a long document (French) with parts of PDF files selected with Grab. I have not used endnotes, but suddenly when I was searching for a word in all the text, I got the message that there was no such word in the endnotes. I realized that the end of my text must have been written as an endnote of which I was totally unaware since I did not use them at all. I want to erase the endnotes frame (1/3 of the line), but I am told to look for the reference mark which I have not in the first place. I carefully reviewed my text, no reference mark. <br><br>How can I get rid of the endnotes and copy back the text (that was in the endnotes and that I saved on a separate file), so that my full text is plain text, and no endnotes. If and when I need endnotes, I know how to insert the mark and will do it properly. <br><br>Thank you for your help.

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Power PC Hi, <br> I'm trying to fiddle with Automator to batch convert some .doc files to .docx. <br><br>I have the "ask for finder items" step, then the "convert format of word documents" step. <br><br>This results in a copy of the file with the same name but the docx extension being saved in the same location as the original. <br><br>What I would like to be able to do, is first, have the docx file saved as a pure .docx. At present it is being saved in "compatibility mode" and I don't see any way to adjust this. <br><br>Secondly, I'd like it to automatically send the original (.doc) file to the trash. <br><br>I'm a little familiar with Automator (practice makes perfect!) so more than willing to fiddle around if someone gives me a little hint! <br> Thanks!

Visio imbedded objects not showing correctly in Word 2008

Hi Guys

I have to say I am really disappointed with this issue I have encountered. I kind of expected MS to get compatibility issues right when it came to other MS Products. At the moment, I have files created by my colleagues in Office 2007 with imbedded Visio graphics. Unfortunately at the moment I am forced to view them in Office 2007 under Parallels because Word 2008 won't display the Visio graphics. Any idea when this type of issue is expected to be resolved?

Hello -

I can't give you any "good" news but you may want to review this thread on
the subject. As you'll see it isn't so much an Office issue as it is a
Mac/Visio issue:

1.Chinese language not correctly displaying in Word 2008

I have copied and pasted Chinese that was in an Entourage message to me into
Word for Mac 2008 so I could use the translate feature.

The characters do not render correctly in word so I can not initiate a
translation.

I am able to do it in my PC version of Word.
How can I get my Mac Version of Word to behave the same?

Thanks

2.Can't print Word doc w/embedded Visio object correctly

When I print Word doc with Visio object embedded in it, only the upper left
ccorner of the Visio object, greatly magnified, prints. Sometimes unselecting
'Lock Aspect Ratio' on 'Size' tab of 'Format Object' dialog box fixes it and
sometimes cutting and repasting the object fixes it. It doesn't matter what
size the Visio object is nor does scaling the size of the object. Print
preview always looks correct.

5.VISIO if i insert an object (word or excel file) the icon not show

Working in Visio - I have a document which I set up. It is a process
document linking to word and excel procedure documents showing the
application icon and the filename, I did this by inserting an object and
linking to that file and displaying the file as an icon.

Now I am working on the same document from a different PC and I am unable to
insert an object and show the icon no matter what I do it will not allow it.
I have built a word, and an excel icon and added to shapes within a new
stencil in Visio but I cannot group this to the inserted file because it then
will not allow the file to open. ????????
