    I have a document that will require updates every so often and I want to somehow flag certain words to make it easy to come back to them later and update them. I do not want to highlight them because I will then have to un-highlight the words prior to printing. What is the easiest way to do what I want to do? Thanks.

    Amidst the gobs of spam, I have a question. I have a stationery template that we use at our school. The letter I'm putting into this document is more than one page. I don't want the header/footer (where we have the school logo and contact information respectively) on the second page. The only way I found to et rid of it is to choose that I want different headers/footers on odd and even pages. This is ok, but the letter content is only two pages yet Word chooses to have a 3rd page with the header/footer showing again and nothing there. How can I get rid of this extra page? Thanks

Reduce double space after a comma and quote [,"] to a single space

Postby » Wed, 15 Feb 2006 17:11:58 GMT

Aim: To reduce double spaces after a comma and quote [,"] to a single
space. In a long written document woord 2004 for mac.

Problems: 1. Find and replace not identifying comma and quote
specifically. Also finding instances of full stop and quote.

Need: To know what to type; e.g [(,")] (A-Z)]

Problem 2. Find and replace moaning and complaining when I ask it to
reduce two spaces to one with: "\1 \2" [quotes not typed] not a valid
field range is the error message from memory

Need: What to type in the replace box exactly.

Thank you.

Dear [whoever],

Edit menu > Replace > type (in "Find What") the text in the square brackets
shown here => [, "] (that is, comma space space quote)

Type in "Replace With" the same as above, but with only the one space.

Hit Replace or Replace All as appropriate.

I'm not sure what "moaning and complaining" means, so I'll bow out with
that.

It appears you are trying to carry over syntax from some other environment
if what you are typing into the Find & Replace dialog is as displayed in
your post.

In the Find What: box type ,"<sp><sp> (<sp> = 1 press of the spacebar)
In the Replace With: box type ,"<sp>

The message that you get in Problem 2 is because Word does not recognize the
\1 \2 operators you are using. For this one;

In the Find What: box type <sp><sp>
In the Replace With: box type <sp>

Are you sure? It looks like the wildcard replace syntax described in
the Word help. Not all of which works as advertised.

I spent ages on this once. Bit pushed for time now. Ask again if you
are still stuck. Some of the match expressions don't work in
combination.
google this group for wildcard search replace and my name - this url is
that search:-

to see if any of the help I got with a similar problem answers your
query.

Tested before posting & had no problem with the ," finding/replacing
some half-dozen occurences. As for the 2-space to 1-space, I didn't
specifically test it _at that time_, but have used it successfully in
various versions of Word on both Mac & PC.

Sorry, I mis-read the position of the spaces in the question. My earlier
post should have read:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Edit menu > Replace > type (in "Find What") the text in the square brackets
shown here => [,"  ]  (that is, comma quote space space)
Type in "Replace With" the same as above, but with only the one space.
Hit Replace or Replace All as appropriate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Like the original solution I nominated, I tested this variant before posting
and it works.

Addendum to previous post: Just tested the 2-space to 1-space solution & it
worked like a charm as in the past.
